"Arrived at the hotel but the man could not locate our reservation albeit we had only booked a few minutes before. He suggested we were at the wrong hotel but then showed us to the room. He wasn’t very friendly! We left the hotel at 8:45am but the reception was closed and nobody around. We called a phone number twice that was on the door but nobody answered so we had to leave the key on a hook on the door!!"

Is Bansko good for skiing?
Yes, Bansko is generally considered a good destination for skiing, particularly for its value and range of slopes.

Bansko offers a modern ski area, with 75 km of pistes served by 13 lifts, including a gondola connecting the town directly to the main ski zone. The ski area sits high in the Pirin Mountains, with the highest point at 2,560 metres. You'll find a mix of blue, red, and black runs, suiting various skill levels.

For families, Bansko is a practical choice. The ski school has a good reputation, and there are dedicated children's areas and beginner slopes near the top of the gondola, making it easy for younger skiers to learn in a controlled environment. The town itself offers plenty of family-friendly dining options and activities beyond skiing, such as ice skating.

Couples looking for a ski trip that combines good slopes with a lively après-ski scene and dining will also find Bansko appealing. The main street, Pirin Street, is lined with traditional taverns called 'mehanas' and modern bars, offering a good selection of places to relax after a day on the slopes.
Which area of Bansko is best to stay in for skiing?
The best area to stay in Bansko for skiing is near the Gondola Lift, particularly along Pirin Street or around the area known as the "Gondola Ski Zone."

This area is the most convenient for skiers. It's where the main Gondola Lift station is located, providing direct access to the ski slopes. Pirin Street is the central artery here, lined with hotels, ski rental shops, and restaurants, making everything easily accessible on foot. You'll find many properties offering ski-in/ski-out or very close proximity to the lift. This area also has a lively feel, especially during peak season.

Couples looking for a convenient and enjoyable ski holiday will find this area ideal. You can easily walk from your accommodation to the Gondola each morning, and in the evenings, there are plenty of places for après-ski drinks and dinner without needing to travel far. Many hotels here also offer amenities like spas and indoor pools, superb for relaxing after a day on the slopes.

For families with children, staying close to the Gondola Lift is also highly recommended. The ease of getting to and from the slopes without long walks or bus rides makes a big difference when managing ski gear and tired little ones.
Is it cheaper to book flights and a ski hotel in Bansko as a package?
Booking a hotel and flight package on Expedia can be cheaper than booking flights and hotels separately. However, savings vary depending on factors like destination, travel dates, and availability, so it's wise to compare options. With access to over 300,000 hotels worldwide, Expedia makes it easy to build the perfect travel package.
What dining options are typically available in Bansko ski accommodations?
Dining options in Bansko ski accommodations typically range from bed and breakfast to half-board, with some offering self-catering facilities.

Most hotels and aparthotels offer a bed and breakfast basis, which usually includes a buffet breakfast. This is a good option for those who prefer flexibility for lunch and dinner, allowing them to explore the many restaurants in Bansko town.

Half-board is a popular choice for many travellers, especially families, and generally includes breakfast and dinner. This can be very convenient after a day on the slopes, as it removes the need to find a restaurant each evening. Many establishments provide a buffet dinner with a variety of local and international dishes.

For those who prefer to prepare their own meals, particularly families or groups staying for longer periods, self-catering apartments are widely available.
What activities should we do in Bansko besides skiing?
The best areas to stay in Bansko are typically around the Gondola Lift for convenience, or in the Old Town for a more traditional experience.

For travellers focused on winter sports and easy access to the slopes, staying near the Gondola Lift is ideal. This area is modern and purpose-built for tourism, with many hotels, equipment hire shops, and restaurants concentrated along Pirin Street, which leads directly to the gondola station. You'll find it incredibly convenient for getting to and from the ski runs without much fuss.

Couples looking for a blend of modern convenience and a touch of local character might enjoy the area around the Gondola Lift. Many hotels here offer amenities like spas and high-end fitness equipment, superb for relaxing after a day out, and you're just a short walk from the main street's dining and entertainment options.

The Old Town, located a bit further from the Gondola Lift, offers a different experience. It's characterised by its cobblestone streets, traditional stone and wood houses, and historic churches like the Holy Trinity Church. This area provides a more authentic Bulgarian feel, with local taverns (mehanas) serving traditional food and wine.

For those who appreciate history and a quieter setting, the Old Town is a good fit. It's a pleasant place for a stroll, offering a glimpse into Bansko's heritage.
