"Great base."
All up I stayed 3 nights at the Hotel Invictus - 2 at the beginning of my trip and 1 at the end. Hotel was in a good location - 50 min walk to The Vatican. 15 mins to Spanish Steps. Huge plus was breakfast being served from early on which enabled me to get walking early in the day. Staff were extremely amenable - they even kept two pairs of shoes I left behind because they knew I was coming back!

"Best bed I slept in on trip."
I liked the new king sized bed, short three block walk from Termini, an area notorious for fairly priced rooms & food. One drawback is one device limit for the free WiFi; each additional device comes at a fee, I believe $3.99 per day. The free breakfast has lots of donuts and sweets, lacked eggs/bacon, and salmon that you might find at four or five star breakfast, but for the nightly price that makes Europe affordable, I was happy. It looks like several hotels pool these rooms, which was interesting.

Hotel Solis

Via Cavour, 311, Rome - Map
"Ideal Location"
Hotel Solis is a well-worn hotel with a fantastic location. They could do some sprucing up. We really didn't care about that as much as the location. It's a 10 minute walk to the Colosseum and 5 minutes to the Forum. The staff was helpful and nice.

"Great hotel but..."
So many rules! i stayed in a single room w/ a terrace -- which I was super excited about. The room was incredibly smaller in person and the terrace overlook nothing...making it not worth the extra dollars. Same with the rooftop terrace -- it did not offer anything great. The free breakfast is so-so -- I was over it the first day. The hotel is in a lively area and you can hear EVERYTHING day and night. A MAJOR NEGATIVE EXPERIENCE was the visitors rule. I have friends in Rome who came to visit me at the hotel and they were giving them only 15 minutes to go up and even took their ID's/Passport. What is this a correctional facility? This was a first for me... Oh, the room card also kept demagnetizing. I had to go and have them reset 3 times. The deal person helping me was so over it, but it wasn't my fault. She eventually told me I cannot keep the room card next to my iPhone. Which is hard because I toss them both into my small purse. For the next few days I had to one or the other in my bra. Ugh.

Hotel Franklin Feel The Sound

Via Rodi 29, Rome - Map
"The hotel close to Vatican"
The hotel was rated very high that is why I booked it. The hotel close to Vatican but area itself is not the best one. The rooms are specious and nice, good and big bed , in general rooms are much bigger than in many other hotels. No personal touch like shampoo and body lotion, it is not really expensive stuff but shows how the guests are looked after.

"Nice boutique hotel on a famous street"
A charming hotel on a street full of artists and the like. Everything was great. The only reason I took a star off on facilities was that the elevator to the lobby on the third floor was tiny and rickety and had a little trouble with the weight of me and my son (we are each 250 pounds).

"Nice Hotel"
Plenty of room for 3 twin beds. There is a terrace on the roof. Very close to the train station. There was a bit of noise from the restaurants below with the window open. Many of the restaurants in the area don't open until 7PM. We ate lunch at the White chicken restaurant and they had great pizza. Very easy to get the Hop-on/hop off bus or the subway from here. Great breakfast. Good Internet access n the room. Large bathroom. Very clean room.

The garden was great, room was nice. Bed was quite hard and the breakfast wasn't anything to rave about. A very good value overall.
