(1,000 reviews) The room itself was the best part. Super comfy beds and really spacious. The bad - the shower door didn’t seal so the floor was constantly covered in soaking wet towels. As other reviewers have stated - there’s nothing special about the food. The breakfast buffet is worth adding for the extra $11\. Def not worth $22 per person though. We ate at the buffet once for dinner and it was pretty awful. We ate at fuego and it was way over priced for the quality of food. Same goes for the starfish place. But one thing they all had in common was terrible service. Though, as we move around to different areas (we’re now in Casco Viejo) and the service here is pretty awful as well. I don’t think anyone here hustles for tips. It’s weird. As for location - you aren’t going to do anything out at the Westin, so staying there kind of seems pointless. Where we are staying now is a cool area that you can walk around and there’s tons of shopping and food and stuff to do. And all the excursions we did while at playa Bonita, we could have just done from here. Highly recommend the monkey and sloth tour. By far the best bag for your buck at $30/person for 5ish hours! Ok back to hotel - as others have said, beach is terrible. Low tide seems to last forever and it goes out sooooo far. And you aren’t left with sand and tide pools, you’re left with mud and grossness. Do not stay here if you’re trying to have a beach experience. Anyway, I would recommend staying elsewhere - casco viejo has been great! (215 reviews) Staff were courteous and friendly but no one really stood out that provided any exceptional service. We stayed in the semi private junior suite rooms which were clean and in good condition. The rooms were minimally stocked with toiletries and you basically just get towels, hair dryer, shampoo, body wash and conditioner. It appears to be pretty environmentally friendly. The grounds and amenities around the hotel were not in the best shape and the age definitely showed. The parking lot was under construction and the roadway entrances were in poor shape. The main hotel reception area was closed and they were using the spa area as the reception. I did use the spa area during my stay and got a massage. The sauna and steam room were really small and not turned on. I tried turning it on but it was taking a while to heat up so I gave up. The outdoor pool was also closed which I understand since it was the slow season. This resort does also have hotel style rooms. Which appear to be decently kept from the exterior. There is a restaurant onsite which served breakfast until 10:30 and we also had lunch and dinner a couple of times. The food in the restaurant was very good and the bar had great drink deals for happy hour.
