It was wonderful to have a few pool loction choices. You could select a quiet area or sit near the swim up bar and be in the center of all the action. The staff made every effort to meet your needs and keep everyone entertained.

This hotel was family-friendly and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We were able to book excursions through the hotel and spa services as well. There is an aviary on site with macaws, peacocks and other birds. The is a stable on site as well. We were able to go horseback riding on the beach. There are three restaurant choices in addition to the buffet and snack bar. Reservations need to be made a day in advance in order to have dinner at the steakhouse, sushi restaurant, and Italian restaurant. Overall, we enjoyed our stay there although it is quite far from the San Jose airport. It is a two hour drive on the toll road, one hour on the ferry and another 20-30 minutes to the resort. If you don’t mind the traveling, you should book there.

I LOVED staying here and if I come back to Costa Rica, this would be where I would want to stay.
Johnny at the front desk was absolutely magic. Any problem that we had, he had a solution for. We needed some sea sick medication but our tour got back late and everything was closed. I messaged him at the front desk using WhatsApp around 11PM and he went out and found us some! Another night, it was a night tour and by the time we got back, all the restaurants were closed. We asked him what we should do and he called in a pizza for us while we were on the tour, set the pizza on warmers for us, and then delivered it right to our room. He is excellent and definitely made the experience for us! We actually were upset to be leaving to another city in CR, and all of my friends joked about wanting to take Johnny with us.
The beach access with the complimentary sunset drinks were amazing. They had chairs with umbrellas (thank goodness!) so we were able to sit while the sun was blazing. And then, the attendee there brought us cold towels. Amazing!
The free breakfast was also amazing with the free option of a prepacked one if your tour leaves early. Honestly, it was some of the best food we’ve had in Tamarinda (a lot of the restaurants in town were a bust :( )
Overall, I absolutely would stay again.

The view is obviously incredible, which is what the resort relies on. The staff were nice enough, but lacked management and training in certain areas. Had they been more attentive, we would have spent more money.
The food was well cooked but the menus are a little odd.
After paying so much to stay at the hotel, it's then disappointing to have to compete with public visitors to get tables in the restaurant.
I'm shocked the property has been open less than 10 years; it needs a lot of maintenance. The water pressure is non-existant (shower is disappointing and even worse when irrigation is running), tiles are missing in both the main and the in-room pool. The main pool needs a deep clean, moss and black mould in the grout lines (black floating around in the pool). Shortage of pool towels, which have seen better days. Our bi-folding patio doors only partially opened, and we heard others talking about the same by the pool.
We visited in dry season so whilst not expecting lush green landscaping, lights, wiring and irrigation all out the ground was disappointing to see. The areas behind the pool where nobody looks and between rooms is littered with rubbish and buiding materials.
Whilst not the hotel's problem, the little make-believe town of Las Catalinas is extremely overhyped. Its still being built and its nothing. It reminded us on a Disney back lot set. Fake buildings with nobody in them. The beach and sea are lovely but quite busy with locals and visiting tourists.

The rooms were clean, bed comfy, rooms looked recently updated. The staff was 50/50. Some helpful and friendly, some irritable and useless. The only restaurant you could order from a menu was the steakhouse which was good. All the others were buffet style and basic resort food. The pool was nice, the property was well kept and the watersport team was amazing. You can get PADI certified there. WARNING don't expect to be able to charge things to your room with the "resort credits" That was the biggest joke of the trip. I went to the spa expecting to do that and they told me I could get $25 off of the service I wanted. Basically they are coupons towards the spa, scuba/snorkeling and pics in the pool. The level of disappointment was off the chart. The $780 in "resort credits" was over half the reason I booked through Expedia. When I asked the guy I checked in with if I could use the credits at the spa, he said yes. Never explaining where or how they worked or that I needed a code to access them through the app. I checked in Thurs and wasn't informed until Sat how they worked. By then I'd paid for a scuba and missed it on $60 off. I used none of them. So make sure you get the code. Also book your excursions through Tours with Frank the Tank. Our tour was the Unique volcano tour
