We stayed in August 2024 for my birthday. This was our 5th or 6th trip and unfortunately we will probably not return. Resort has stopped focusing on couples and has starting promoting large groups to book rooms. The resort isn't set up for this. Dining is delayed, staff is stressed (not enough of them to serve large groups plus other guests), more buffets than before, loud groups partying until late into the night/morning takes away from the chill, relaxing, quiet vibe the resort used to have. Staff and taxi drivers indicate the new manager (might not still be there 1.5 years later, maybe so) was running the resort into the ground for personal profit. We came here for our honeymoon in 2016 and loved it and went back several times. The last trip was so bad and noisy we were ready to leave early since the other people in our building thought nothing of blaring their music and talking on the phone until 3 and 4am in the common areas between rooms. The way the buildings are set up in this resort you walk into a common area and all the rooms in the building come off the common area. The problem is the rooms are very insulated between the rooms but not around the doors. Also because of the large open ceilings, stuff in the common areas echo. As the group was very large (probably 30 plus adults), our concerns were pretty much dismissed since they had rented out about 1/3 of the resort. The wait staff and kitchen staff and bar staff did the best they could.

Customer facing staff (servers, concierge) were outstanding. Kudos to Leonardo, Ulyses, Omar, Alex and Alfredo. Back office staff (room staff, admin) not quite so good. We only got nightly turn down service about 50% of the time and our welcome letter was addressed to someone else. Emilianos restaurant was disappointing. The main room was closed and we were shunted into a spare room, square with white walls, little decoration and no entertainment - the atmosphere was terrible. We dined on the patio a second evening, and it appears they had a static menu as we could spot no differences from our first visit. To cap it all, the food was overcooked. Fortunately, the hotel offers complementary dining at its sister locations. Tau, on the beach, was our savior. The service was excellent both during the day and at night, and the food outstanding. Their menu varied night to night, they had an excellent singer providing entertainment, and the open air ambiance completed the experience. Well done to Leslie and her staff of Saul, Isaac, Antonio, Enrique and Erick. We also went to the Andrea restaurant in Velas Vallarta, but after being served by a disinterested water in a room of screaming children running around we vowed to never go back. Finally we went to Grand Velas and dined in their Piaf restaurant. It was the culinary highlight of our trip. Overall, though, we had a very pleasant experience at Casa Velas. Would we go back there? The jury is still out on this.

Resort is very clean. It sits away from the Sunset Hotel and Market. The Shuttle service from hotel to the market, golf course, restaurants etc is HORRIBLE. Plan on waiting 25 minutes for a ride. Rooms are small and you can hear everything going on in the room next to you. (I mean you hear everything) not enough restaurants on the property to accommodate guests. On the positive side pools are nice, loungers have nice cushions and their are no children allowed so its very quiet. Overall stay was ok won’t come back will stay at resort closer to downtown.

We had a great stay. The were so attentive and accommodating. The atmosphere was the perfect mix of relaxing and fun. Our room was cleaned everyday, well stocked with amenities and felt luxurious. Can’t recommend this place more if you’re looking for an all inclusive!
