"I spent three nights and everything was fine. The place is clean and all the staff members I interacted with were very nice. The bedroom I had had a window to an indoor area but not to any exterior. I did not spend too much time in there so that was fine with me. If you are a light sleeper, you may have trouble as there is some noise and music at night from next door patios (restaurants, etc.). It is easy to walk to Isla de las Flores crossing the bridge and the new bus station is 7minutes away...

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Santa Elena?
The best area to stay in Santa Elena, Petén, Guatemala, is Flores, a small island connected to Santa Elena by a causeway.

Flores is the main tourist hub and is known for its colourful historic buildings and cobblestone streets. The island is small enough to walk around entirely in about 15-20 minutes, with most hotels, restaurants, and tour operators situated along its waterfront promenades or around the central plaza. It offers direct views of Lake Petén Itzá.

Couples often find Flores ideal for a relaxing and convenient base. The island offers a romantic setting with sunset views over the lake, plenty of dining options, and easy access to boat tours around the lake. It's also the primary departure point for organised tours to the Tikal ruins.

For solo travellers, Flores provides a welcoming and social environment.
When is the best time to go to Santa Elena?
The best time to visit Santa Elena is during the dry season, which runs from November to May.

During these months, you'll experience pleasant weather with less humidity and a lower chance of rain, making it ideal for exploring the region's Mayan ruins and natural attractions. This period is particularly good for those planning extensive outdoor activities, such as visiting Tikal, as the pathways are drier and more comfortable for walking.

The shoulder months of November and May offer a good balance of favourable weather and fewer crowds compared to the peak dry season. You can still expect comfortable conditions for sightseeing and enjoying the area's lakes and jungle.

While the wet season (June to October) brings lush greenery and fewer tourists, it also means higher humidity and more frequent, though often brief, rain showers.
Can I cancel my hotel reservation on Expedia?
You can cancel your hotel reservation on Expedia, though it depends on the cancellation policy of your booking. Most bookings are refundable if canceled within 24-48 hours of the scheduled arrival. Be sure to check your booking confirmation for the exact cancellation policy. If free cancellation is available, you can cancel directly through your Expedia account by logging in, going to "My Trips", and selecting your reservation. Find the best deals by being flexible with your dates, and sort search results by "Price: low to high" for the cheapest rate.
