"What a beautiful place that we stayed in. The staff was lovely. The location was excellent! You walk to the right and you're going to the aquarium you walk to the left and you're headed to the wharf. Fantastic location wonderful experience. It was our 36th wedding anniversary and we couldn't have been happier."

"We are extremely dissatisfied with our experience booking through Expedia for our stay at Hotel Abrego in Monterey. We carefully reviewed all of Expedia’s listings and specifically chose and prepaid for a deluxe room in what was described as a handicap-accessible building. Accessibility was extremely important to us and was the main reason we selected this room. When we arrived, however, Hotel Abrego placed us in a third-floor walk-up room with no accessibility accommodations whatsoever. We could not believe that what we booked and paid for in advance was completely different from what we were actually given. To make matters worse, when we addressed the issue with the hotel staff, their response was essentially, “Next time, book directly through us, not Expedia.” That response was both frustrating and unacceptable. We did not receive the room we paid for, and we feel completely misled by Expedia’s booking information. We are now reaching out to our travel insurance provider to see if this issue can be resolved because this experience was a major disappointment. Based on this experience, we will never book through Expedia again, and we strongly encourage others to be cautious when relying on Expedia’s room descriptions and accessibility information."

"The property itself was decent and the stay was fine. The room was spacious and clean enough. The breakfast is what other reviews say, but it worked well for my kiddo who loves toaster waffles and yogurt (more fruit would have been nice but the boiled eggs good). Parking spots are a bit tight if you have a large car. We also experienced hearing a manager being rude to the cleaning staff. All that said, I probably wouldn't have bothered to leave a review because it was neither exceptional or terrible. The reason I am leaving a review is for those considering booking through Expedia... Don't do it. I believe this motel would be better off removing themselves from "third party booking sites" (which is what they will refer to Expedia as, even if they know it's Expedia). They absolutely refused to answer any questions I had before the stay, nor would they work with me to try and pick new dates when I had an emergency come up. I was able to make the stay work because I didn't want to be out the money I had paid, but it was a very upsetting experience. After a few messages back and forth, I received an email telling me that I was "not respecting the staff" by trying to get information, when I was unclear between Expedia and the hotel how to get help. Their pettiness around staying via Expedia extends to use of the fireplaces in the room as well (photos attached). Stay at your own risk if you don't mind being treated poorly and/or with condescension by staff."

"First, they charge daily for parking. Other hotels in the area do not charge for parking. We got there one hour early and they wanted to charge more for early check in. Therefore, there is no one in the room, but they can't let you in unless you pay extra. No breakfast, only coffee in the lobby. Room smelled like mildew, but there was not visible mildew."
