Top Tomi Hotel Reviews

Dormy Inn Nagano Zenkounoyu Natural Hot Spring

8/10 Good

"The best thing about this hotel is its location (incredibly close to the station) and its staff (friendly and very helpful). It is a very tired looking hotel so really needs an upgrade. Same format room as every other Dormy Inn one I have stayed in."

Hotel Indigo Karuizawa by IHG

10/10 Excellent

"A 5 star experience in a wonderful wooded area of the city. Striking design and great ambience combined with top level amenities, excellent food and friendly staff make the stay at this hotel an experience that I will always remember. Get ready to be spoiled when staying at this hotel! Part of the amenities also includes plenty of parking and a free shuttle service to the train station."

Toyoko Inn Nagano-eki Higashi-guchi

10/10 Excellent

"Quite close to the Nagano Station (a short walk), good breakfast included, although the breakfast room is very busy for the first hour. Has on site laundry. A pleasant city park is across the street, 2 convenience stores nearby and a "Hotto Motto" fast food outlet a few doors down, as well as the shops and restaurants at and around Nagano Station."

Karuizawa Hotel Longing House

10/10 Excellent

"A must stay for anyone in Karuizawa! The room was plenty big enough for one or two people, staff were very helpful. I rented an e bike for 2500 yen for the day which was great to get around and do some sightseeing. The outside private onsen was a great way to end the day, I’d recommend booking in the morning to make sure you have your preferred spot."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Tomi?

The best area to stay in Tomi is around the Bessho Onsen district, known for its historic hot springs and temples.

This area offers a tranquil escape with a focus on relaxation and cultural experiences. Bessho Onsen is easily walkable, with traditional ryokans (Japanese inns) and local eateries dotted along its streets. The Anrakuji Temple, with its unique octagonal pagoda, and the Kitamuki Kannon Temple are central landmarks.

Couples seeking a peaceful retreat will find Bessho Onsen particularly appealing. The area provides opportunities for soothing hot spring baths, quiet strolls through temple grounds, and enjoying traditional Japanese hospitality away from the rush of larger cities.

For travellers looking for a more secluded experience with direct access to nature, the areas closer to the Utsukushigahara Kogen highland offer a different kind of appeal. While not a distinct "area" with a town centre, several high-top hotels are located within the natural landscape, providing stunning mountain views and opportunities for hiking.

What are the best budget hotels in Tomi?

For a highly-rated budget hotel in Tomi, the Nunobikikannon Onsen comes highly recommended.

This hotel, with an 8.0 rating, offers a traditional ryokan experience with the added convenience of free self-parking and complimentary WiFi. Guests can enjoy the indoor public ryokan bath, which uses water from natural hot and mineral springs found on-site. The Nunobikikannon Onsen is also conveniently located just 1.4 km from Shakuson-ji Temple.

When is the best time to go to Tomi?

The best times to visit Tomi are during spring (April to May) for cherry blossoms and autumn (October to November) for vibrant foliage.

The cherry blossoms usually bloom in late April, transforming areas like the Mimaki Park into picturesque landscapes. This season is particularly appealing for couples looking for scenic strolls and romantic picnics amidst nature.

Autumn brings cooler temperatures, typically between 8°C and 18°C, and breathtaking displays of red and gold leaves across the region. The autumn colours are usually at their peak in late October and early November, especially in areas around the Chikuma River and local vineyards.
