The observation tower on the summit of Clingmans Dome offers spectacular 360° views of the Smokies and beyond for visitors willing to climb the steep half-mile walk to the tower at the top. Although Clingmans Dome Observation Tower is open year-round, the road leading to it is closed from December 1 through March 31, and whenever weather conditions require. The view from the front door (and anywhere else on the main level) was beautiful!!! The house itself was just what my husband and I, plus our 3 children and their families needed for a great weekend for the Polar Express trip. The kids, ranging in ages 9 months to 8 years, had plenty of room on either level for games and playing. Such a short drive to downtown Bryson City.
