Top Palaiokastro Hotel Reviews

Stella Island Luxury Resort & Spa - Adults Only

10/10 Excellent

"Best resort I’ve ever stayed at. Clean. Friendly. Accommodating."

RoccaMare Heraklion - Handwritten Collection

10/10 Excellent

"This place is absolutely beautiful. I love that it is city center and a convenient walk to many of the shops, bus stops and delicious eateries. It does get a little noisy at night as the cars go by, bring your night time ear plugs unless youre immune to city noise:) Overall top tier service! & the staff were all amazing."

Agapi Beach Resort - Premium All Inclusive

8/10 Good

"The main advantage is that the hotel sits right next to a spacious beach with plenty of sunbeds. The food quality was excellent, but it lacked variety. We were there for over a week and found that our meal choices were similar, especially for breakfast. The dining hosts were friendly, but on some days the same or different hosts lacked warmth and didn't feel welcoming. The waiting staff were amazing and very friendly, although one gentleman was quite rude when we chose a certain spot to sit and pointed us to other available tables (without considering that it was easier for us to be seated in a quiet spot with fewer distractions for our daughter). Our room had air conditioning, but it was consistently set to a fan setting and didn't cool the room. When we questioned this at reception, they said they had changed the settings so it wouldn't cool in all guest rooms given the time of year (so all settings for every guest had to be the same and not separate, which is strange, as everyone should be able to adjust their A/C individually as they find suitable for them). The reception staff then said they would change the settings back after back-and-forth calls with the Director. For all-inclusive, note that top-brand drinks are not included as "all-inclusive" drinks, which was very disappointing. A special shout-out to the security lady on the beach who was so friendly and welcoming every time we saw her. She was so accommodating, and made the effort to say hello to our daughter."

GDM Megaron Historical Monument Hotel

10/10 Excellent

"Beautiful hotel and comfortable bed We were just there one night to sleep and it was super comfortable Parking was a little harder to figure out and limited space The location is very close to The ferry and we rented a car It would have been easier maybe if we got a short taxi ride over or maybe walked and picked up our car the next day But overall very happy with the accommodations"

Metropole Urban Hotel

8/10 Good

"Property was good and breakfast at the restaurant in the morning was plentiful as well (leave a lot of time for it). Area was quiet and nice. The thing that was annoying, however, was tha light in the washroom was turning on at night when you tried using it, waking up both yourself and your family members."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Palaiokastro?

The best area to stay in Palaiokastro is along the coast, particularly near the main beach and the historical Venetian fortress.

This area is the heart of Palaiokastro, offering direct access to the sea and the village's primary attractions. You'll find a selection of hotels and apartments located along the shoreline, providing lovely views of the Aegean Sea. The main road running parallel to the beach connects most of the local tavernas and cafes.

For couples looking for a relaxed beach holiday, staying right by the beach is ideal. You'll be steps away from swimming and sunbathing, and many accommodations offer balconies with sea views, great for enjoying a quiet evening. The nearby Venetian fortress adds a touch of history to your strolls.

Families with children will also appreciate the convenience of staying near the main beach. The calm, shallow waters are suitable for younger swimmers, and having amenities like restaurants and ice cream shops within easy reach makes for a stress-free holiday.

When is the best time to go to Palaiokastro?

The best time to visit Palaiokastro is during the shoulder seasons, specifically from late April to early June and again from September to October.

During these months, the weather is pleasantly warm and sunny, great for outdoor activities like exploring the local beaches or hiking the nearby trails. You'll avoid the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months (July and August), yet still find all the local businesses and attractions fully operational. The sea temperatures are also ideal for swimming.

For couples seeking a relaxing getaway, these periods offer a more peaceful experience. You can enjoy quiet dinners at seaside tavernas, leisurely strolls along the coast, and unhurried visits to historical sites like the Venetian Fortress, all without the bustling crowds that summer brings. The mild evenings are great for enjoying a glass of local wine on a terrace.

Families travelling with children will also appreciate the shoulder seasons. The milder temperatures are more comfortable for little ones, allowing for extended playtime on the beaches without overheating.
