"Great for family travel, good for solo travel. It's about a 15 minute walk to the restaurants and station so it's in a quieter spot with great view of the water. Best for longer, relaxed stays."

Had a wonderful relaxing time at this rural guesthouse. The private onsen in the room was so convenient and you could use it at anytime. I enjoyed conversing with the owner and look forward to visiting again in the future.

If you want a traditional Japanese Ryokan experience, this is it. With two onsens ensuite, one outdoor one indoor and large rooms with a beautiful garden, and a reasonable price, it’s hard to beat. 11-min walk from the station is worth it.

This is the best hotel I have ever stayed in, I spent 1 night for my Aqours pilgrimage. You need to ride a boat to get to the island (free if you stay at the hotel), Friendly staff, Absolutely stunning lobby, rooms, onsen, Mt. Fuji view, the best part is hearing nothing but waves when you open the door to the balcony. Also loved the Aqours Mari shrine room. I wish I stayed for more nights.

The best area to stay in Nishiizu is primarily along the coast in towns like Dogashima and Matsuzaki, which offer direct access to the sea and local attractions.
Dogashima is much-loved for its dramatic coastline, featuring sea caves and rock formations that are best explored by boat tours departing from the harbour. It has a concentration of hotels, many of which are ryokans (traditional Japanese inns) with their own onsen (hot springs) and sea views. The main road, Route 136, runs through the town, making it easy to navigate. Visitors often enjoy the Dogashima Tensodo Cave and the scenic walking paths along the cliffs.
Couples often find Dogashima appealing for a romantic getaway. The opportunity to stay in a ryokan with a private or shared onsen, enjoying fresh seafood dinners, and waking up to ocean views creates a memorable experience. The boat tours offer a unique way to see the natural beauty together.
Matsuzaki, a bit further south, offers a more traditional Japanese town experience. It's known for its well-preserved streets lined with Namako-kabe houses (traditional plaster-walled buildings with distinctive black and white patterns). It's a quieter area but still provides easy access to the coast and local art museums.
Families might prefer Matsuzaki for its relaxed pace and cultural insights. The town's flat layout makes it easy to walk around, and there are opportunities to learn about local crafts.
