New Brunswick

Traverse wild coastal landscapes in this little-explored province, which offers abundant opportunities to swim, hike, snowshoe, kayak and cycle.

New Brunswick, on Canada’s east coast, comprises stunningly diverse terrain ranging from saltwater beaches and mountain peaks, to cities and small villages. Enjoy the area’s picturesque hiking trails, take part in a range of outdoor adventure sports and sit back and relax on the shores of the Bay of Fundy.

Eight cities give you plenty of options for urban exploring in New Brunswick. Start a mountain trek through the Appalachian Mountains in Campbellton. Canoe on the Saint John River in the capital of Fredericton before sipping a pint at a local craft brewery. Ride water slides at Magic Mountain Water Park in Moncton and puzzle at how your car rolls uphill on Magnetic Hill.

The Bay of Fundy is a coastal region along the shores of New Brunswick that offers miles of unspoiled coastland and beautiful views of the Fundy Isles. Bring your bicycle to transverse the Fundy Trail and watch the Hopewell Rocks as they disappear beneath the high tide. Take a whale-watching tour just off the coast and build sandcastles at New River Beach Provincial Park.

Cycle around miles of mountain biking trails at Sugarloaf Provincial Park, go swimming in Mactaquac Provincial Park and explore the hiking trails of Mount Carleton Provincial Park. For something more relaxing, lay out on the beaches of Kouchibouguac National Park and Parlee Beach Provincial Park. This region is also well-geared toward golfers, who can practice their swing at courses such as Herring Cove Provincial Park.

Three international airports serve the New Brunswick province. Upon arrival, rent a car for complete sightseeing freedom. Another option is to explore the region using a cruise tour operator who will drop you off on the shores of the Bay of Fundy.

Visit in the summer to enjoy the longest park and attraction opening hours. During the winter months, a whole new range of activities, such as pond hockey and snowshoeing, arise.

With scenic islands and unspoiled hiking terrain, New Brunswick is a superb spot to experience the great Canadian wilderness.
