Find hotels in Marathitis from CA $70

The best area to stay in Marathitis is the village centre, particularly around the main square and the streets leading off it.

This compact village is built into a hillside, offering splendid views of the surrounding olive groves and the sea in the distance. The centre is home to the local tavernas and a mini-market, making it convenient for dining and picking up essentials. Its traditional Cretan architecture and narrow, winding paths give it a charming, authentic feel.

Couples looking for a peaceful escape will find the village centre ideal. It's a place to enjoy quiet evenings, savour local cuisine, and simply relax without the hustle and bustle of larger resorts. The slower pace allows for leisurely walks through the village and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.

For families, staying slightly outside the immediate village centre, perhaps on the outskirts where villas with private pools are more common, offers a fantastic balance. These properties often provide more space and amenities, allowing children to play freely while still being a short walk or drive from the village's amenities.

The best time to visit Marathitis is during the shoulder seasons of May, early June, September, and early October.

These months offer pleasant weather, with warm temperatures great for enjoying the beaches and outdoor activities without the intense heat and larger crowds of mid-summer. You'll find the sea is warm enough for swimming, and the local tavernas and attractions are fully operational. This period is ideal for couples seeking a relaxed and romantic getaway, as the atmosphere is generally more tranquil, allowing for intimate dining experiences and peaceful strolls along the coastline.

For families, late June and the first half of July are also excellent options. While a bit warmer and busier than the shoulder seasons, it's still before the peak August crowds. The warm sea temperatures are great for children to enjoy extended time in the water, and many family-friendly activities are in full swing.
