The National Historic Landmark, located in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of Chimayo, has been called the “Lourdes of America”, attracting 300,000 pilgrims annually hoping to take home some of the miracle dirt. We went home empty handed the day of our visit; a mass was being celebrated at the time of our arrival.
