Great hotel, great location. We stayed for 2 nights with breakfast, the only fault was the breakfast as a westerner burgers fried chicken and pork skewers and chips are not for us , no toast or scrambled egg in sight shame as this let us down.

We had a wonderful stay during our Japan trip and truly appreciated. The location is excellent—set in a quiet area yet within walking distance of nearby landmarks, which made exploring very easy. It’s a great balance between convenience and relaxation. The staff were incredibly friendly and thoughtful, and there were no issues communicating in English. They even contacted us in advance to confirm our estimated arrival time, allowing us to drop off our luggage before check-in, which was very helpful. The room was very well maintained and beautifully designed. We especially loved how it blends traditional Japanese elements with modern style. The heated floor in bathroom and living area were a standout feature and made the stay exceptionally comfortable. Overall, a warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully run hotel—highly recommended for anyone visiting Japan.

We stayed in 6 high end hotels/ryokans over a 2,5 week period of time. Sowaka by far the most personalized service we received. The staff is highly professional and engaging. They made great recommendations based on our needs and requests. Arriving or leaving Sowaka was met with a warm reception each time. The room was well maintained and we always returned to inspiring messages. Gion Loka provided a great culinary experience both for dinner and breakfast. The location is also hard to beat if you are looking to spend time in the HIgashiyama area. Definitely not a one night and out of there experience. Spend several days here relaxing and exploring

This place is located perfectly if you're looking for quick access to dotonburi and amerikumua. We went during typhoon season and it was hot and rainy but the AC was really cold in the room and access to the Walk and trains was really close. I loved how friendly the staff was and they recommended an amazing yakitori place across the street our first night. They had all the amenities you would need in the room and restocked it every day. I never knew when they turned down our room but the bed was always made and towels hung. I don't usually recommend hotel breakfast but this one was amazing if you want Japanese and continental choices and all the Boss coffee you can drink! They even have ice cream machine that was amazing.

Beautiful, clean, and plenty of amenities. Make to to utilize the beautiful rooftop spa during your stay. It's 100% worth it. Breakfast was also delicious with a fantastic variety.
