The best area to stay in San Savino is within the historic walled town itself. This central area is where you'll find the most authentic experience, with its narrow cobbled streets, traditional stone buildings, and charming piazzas. The main square, Piazza Garibaldi, is a natural gathering spot, often hosting local markets and events. From here, you can easily explore the town's small shops, artisan workshops, and family-run trattorias.Couples looking for a romantic and relaxing getaway will find the historic centre particularly appealing. Staying within the walls means you're just steps away from intimate dining experiences, wine bars, and the quiet beauty of the town after the day-trippers have left. Many of the boutique hotels and guesthouses are housed in renovated historic buildings, offering a unique stay. For families, staying slightly outside the main walls but still within easy walking distance offers a good balance. These areas often feature accommodations with more space, such as villas or agriturismos (farm stays) with gardens and sometimes even pools.

The best time to visit San Savino for pleasant weather and fewer crowds is during the shoulder seasons, specifically from late April to early June and again from September to October.During these months, the weather is generally mild and comfortable, with warm days great for exploring the Umbrian countryside and charming towns. You'll find the landscapes are particularly beautiful, with blooming wildflowers in spring and the rich colours of autumn. It's also an excellent time for outdoor activities like hiking or cycling through the rolling hills. For those looking to experience local festivals and enjoy the warmest weather, July and August are also good options, though it can be quite hot. This is peak season, so you'll find more tourists and potentially higher prices. However, many local sagre (food festivals) take place during these summer months, offering a wonderful taste of regional cuisine and traditions. If you prefer a quieter, more reflective trip and don't mind cooler temperatures, November to March can be a good value.
