For most visitors, the best area to stay in Isola is the historic centre, known locally as Centro Storico, which offers a blend of convenience and authentic local character. The Centro Storico is a maze of narrow, winding streets, many of which are pedestrian-only, leading to small piazzas and historic buildings. It's built on a small island, connected to the mainland by a short bridge. The main thoroughfare, Via Roma, runs through the heart of the area, lined with shops, restaurants, and gelaterias. The Duomo di Isola, a prominent cathedral, stands majestically at one end, overlooking the harbour.Couples will find the Centro Storico particularly appealing. Its romantic streetscapes, numerous intimate dining spots, and proximity to the waterfront make it ideal for evening strolls and relaxed exploration. Many boutique accommodations here offer balconies with sea views, superb for enjoying a sunrise or sunset together.Families with older children will also appreciate the Centro Storico. Its pedestrianised streets mean children can explore with a bit more freedom, and the area is well-served by local eateries offering a variety of options.

The best times to visit Isola are during the shoulder seasons, specifically from April to early June and again from September to October. These months offer pleasant weather, with warm days great for exploring the island's natural beauty and historic sites, without the intense heat and larger crowds of the peak summer months. You'll find the sea warm enough for swimming, and outdoor activities like hiking and cycling are more comfortable. For couples looking for a romantic getaway, these periods provide a more relaxed atmosphere. You can enjoy quiet dinners at local trattorias, leisurely strolls along the coast, and explore ancient ruins without feeling rushed. The almond blossoms in spring or the grape harvests in autumn add a special touch to the scenery.Travellers who appreciate good value will find these months particularly appealing. Accommodation and flight prices tend to be more reasonable than in July and August, allowing you to enjoy premium experiences without the premium cost.
