This extremely small town is a very popular place for tourists and photographs, and everyone tends to capture a different frame, even with the town being less than a mile wide. Most of the photographs are of the beautiful murals on the side of buildings, or the bridge and the snapshot of the Virginia Creeper Trail. The image here frames another aspect of Damascus, The Old Mill. It has a wonderful restaurant and inn, but the strangest thing about it is the conference center. This frame doesn’t show the flowing waters and streams adjacent to the mill, but rather what the building tangibly has to offer. The conference center sticks out just because it doesn’t seem like Damascus. It’s a typical mountain town and doesn’t seem like the place to hold meetings. Yet this town alone can describe the true beauty of Appalachia.
