The University of Alberta dominates the landscape of South Edmonton, its solid brick buildings painting a striking portrait. Almost 40,000 students attend this school regularly, many of them international visitors, and they lend South Edmonton much of its flavor. Duck into a bookstore or a café and spend the afternoon perusing dusty volumes or sharing coffee with a fellow traveler. Enjoy a long walk down by the water in a respite from the lively buzz of the downtown area. In the early evening, head to Whyte Avenue, home to local favourite bars and restaurants, along with the Princess Theatre. This old venue is the place to go for newly released movies, so catch a flick before your day ends.

After a day of roaming around, head back to your South Edmonton hotel to catch up on your R&R. Upload all the photos you’ve taken of your trip to your social media profiles over the hotel’s Wi-Fi. Squeeze in a quick workout at the on-site gym if you’re afraid to let your muscles lose any tone. Shower up and grab a snack or a drink at the lounge, then head back up to your room for a good night’s sleep. The next morning, make breakfast the most important meal of the day in the lobby or through room service.
