Rhodes Vacation Packages
Harbor towns, beaches, ancient ruins and a mountainous interior make Rhodes one of the most alluring Greek Islands. Whether you want history, watersports, nature or nightlife, the island appeals to partygoers, sun seekers and culture lovers.
Explore the extensive selection of beaches, from small coves and bays to long stretches of sand. Most of the vacation resorts with some of the best beaches are on the eastern shore. Swim, sunbathe, Jet-Ski and rent a paddleboat at Faliraki, the island’s most popular beach.
To avoid crowds, visit the bay of Kathara or Anthony Quinn Beach, named after the Hollywood actor. Scenes from the 1961 movie The Guns of Navarone were shot here. The pebble beaches on the west coast are also less crowded. Travel to the windy southerly cape for kite-surfing and windsurfing.
On the cultural side, investigate more than 2,000 years of history in the old part of Rhodes Town. See minarets, medieval walls, mosques and Byzantine churches. Visit the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights and walk along the 14th-century Street of the Knights.
From here, catch a bus or drive the 34 miles (55 kilometers) to Lindos. Climb or take a donkey ride to the ancient acropolis that sits atop a steep rock. Visit the Doric Temple of Athena Lindia that dates from the 3rd century B.C.
During summer the intense nightlife in the main resorts draws young crowds. For something quieter, dine under moonlight in a waterfront restaurant or in a homely taverna. If you are feeling lucky, try the gaming tables and machines in the island’s casino.
Reach Rhodes by air or sea and then get around by bus, moped, bicycle, taxi or rental car. Rhodes offers lively nightlife, ancient charms and sunny beaches. Take advantage of your time here to go island hopping with daytrips to Halki and Symi.
