"We typically stay on Cannery Row at the InterContinental so this was our first at the Portola. PERFECT location for my husband and I and a gorgeous beachy room. He walked to the pier for a fishing day, and I was able to safely walk with others on a pedestrian trail on the boardwalk each morning. Alvarado Street has so many fun shops and restaurants for nighttime. My only negative was one of the mornings I went downstairs to the restaurant by myself. I was seated, then ignored for 20 minutes. Waitstaff made eye contact, but never came to my table. I ended up going to Starbucks. Other than that ideal stay."

The front desk staff was very nice and helpful. Our only issue is the road noise and how loud the room is. If you crack open a window its unbelievable. With no A/C it is a tough choice .. cool temps and noise or closed windows and heat but quiet. Great location with wonderful restaurants close by. Parking was a minor inconvenience, but is not too bad."
