The staff, especially at the front desk, saved the day for this review. They were exceptional!
As far as the room and building - yes, of course they are old, but some things can be kept up - like dusting….& replacing broken toilet seats, for example. A lot of noise came through from the estimated 1&1/2 inch opening on bottom of door. Speaking of doors, they basically had to be closed with a bit of force to catch the lock, so the noise from that alone kept us up through the early morning hours as people would return to their rooms. Then, there is a train that you’ll probably hear every morning at 4:30am. If you have a window room like us, you’ll get the added bonus of car horns & loud vehicles and the insane ‘music’ from the steamboat, across the street. So, maybe ask for an inside room, bring headphones or something to help mute the noise level, so that you can get a bit of sleep after a long day.
