Riverside Inn & Suites Santa Cruz

6/10 Okay

"Pros: spacious with two rooms, bathroom in the middle separating them. Easy access to the boardwalk, quiet. Cons: needs major updates, furniture, bed and carpet all worn. Bathroom paint was bubbling in spots, dust on paneling and the air conditioning units are ancient. With updates, could be a great spot, but I’d rather stay a bit farther from Boardwalk for a comfortable bed and amenities."

"Attention!!!!! Be aware of this property!!!!! Last weekend my family & I stayed in this hotel, when we arrived the check in was easy and everything was going well. The room was so dirty, not well cleaned, left over used toilet paper, the doors were stain of makeup and some type of orange sticky food, could be Cheetos, the walls were all dirty and the certain was full of dryed ice cream from days before. That’s not it there is more! Friday afternoon we got some dinner sat in the patio where there is tables and chair, and a person first asked how to get a hold of front desk and we told him where to go, he then came back and ask for a water bottle, left to his room and came back downstairs and sat in the patio, he started mentioning all the types of drugs he was selling and also that he was hiding from the cops!!!! When this was heard I didn’t feel comfortable I try to get a hold of the front desk for hours and no answer no reply, until the next day and still didn’t want to give my money back!!!!! Will not stay here again, this was my 2nd time staying in this hotel and 1st time didn’t have a problem but this time it was unacceptable, I will not be staying here and if you have small kids be aware because this hotels approves a lot of drug dealers to walk in and out of the property. Is a very nice place but will not be staying here ever. Be aware!!!!! Always read the reviews!!!!!"

"Room was clean and staff friendly but the images look way nicer than the room actually is. It says “signature room” and “premium bedding” in the description but the pillows are flat and the blanket in our room had holes in it. This room is fine for a quick crash for young people, but we didn’t find the bed very comfortable. We stayed with our two teens who also slept poorly and by the way, they also charged $20 more for our kids to stay. This motel does have microwave and mini fridge plus coffee machine, which some motels don’t offer. AC worked well. Pool was filled in a few years ago even though it appears in the photo (not in description I’m aware but still in photos.) There is a dirt lot full of weeds where pool was. Should probably throw some wildflower seeds out there to make it look nicer. Free parking is also a benefit but overall be aware it’s an underwhelming property. I would have paid more to stay at a chain up the street."

"There was no hot water, and when we informed the receptionist she said to run the tap for 15 minutes. That didn’t work AND the shower head was totally broken from the wall so we had to hold it while attempting to bathe ourselves. The light socket was falling off the wall, which is a serious electrical code issue, and the cable box for the TV was hanging from the cords to the TV. A very run down place, and the receptionist was unfriendly and had no sympathy about our hot water. Very disappointed when paying almost $300 for the room!!"

Chaminade Resort & Spa

"Lovely pool area - this is what makes the place a good spot. Check in was not great, no rooms ready, also guests being told they could not have a third bed in the room even though that is what they had reserved - awkward! Spent $50 for 2 drinks & a snack in the bar while waiting (past check in time) for room to be ready. Received a text saying it was ready, then spent 15 minutes back at front desk to pick up keys, to be told it actually wasn’t ready. Ironically despite not being able to get into our room on time due to their mistakes, they refused to give us any grace in a late check out the next day. This could be a high quality place if front desk and management showed more care and attention to detail for guests. The restaurant and bar area is really beautiful, but again there was a disconnect between staff and guests which led to delays and a general sense of a lack of cohesiveness or communication between staff. Also no phones in rooms and cell service is terrible there - making it difficult to talk to anyone at the front desk. Would love to see some improvements in how guests are treated because it really is a beautiful location and has so much potential."
