The best area to stay in La Vera is the picturesque coastal town of Puerto de la Cruz, particularly around the Martianez and La Paz districts.

Puerto de la Cruz is the main tourist centre in the north of La Vera and offers a blend of traditional charm and modern amenities. The Martianez district is home to the famous Lago Martianez, a complex of saltwater swimming pools and sunbathing areas designed by César Manrique. It's also very walkable, with a promenade stretching along the seafront and plenty of shops and restaurants.

Couples often enjoy the La Paz district, which sits on a hillside overlooking the town and the ocean. It's a bit quieter than the bustling centre but still offers excellent dining options and is known for its botanical gardens. Many hotels here provide stunning views and a more relaxed atmosphere, while still being a short walk or taxi ride from the main attractions.

For those looking for a more traditional village experience, the area around La Orotava is also a good choice. This historic town, a short drive from Puerto de la Cruz, is known for its well-preserved historic architecture and stunning views of Mount Teide.

The best time to visit La Vera is from late spring to early autumn, specifically from May to October, when the weather is warm and sunny.

This period offers consistent sunshine and pleasant temperatures, making it ideal for exploring the region's natural beauty and enjoying outdoor activities. Average daytime temperatures typically range from 20-30°C (68-86°F), with minimal rainfall.

For those planning to spend time hiking in the Sierra de Gredos mountains or swimming in the natural pools and gorges, the summer months of July and August are particularly good. This is when the water levels in the natural swimming spots are often at their best, and the longer daylight hours allow for extended exploration.

If you prefer slightly milder temperatures and fewer crowds, May, June, September, and October are excellent choices. During these months, you can still enjoy the warm weather and outdoor activities, but with a more tranquil experience.
