"We loved our stay! From the staff to the decor, we were impressed with Hotel Thaxter. It is so charming and a wonderful alternative to a more commercial hotel. It felt like we were staying in someone’s home, without paying the fees of a vacation rental. "

10/10 Excellent
"I loved it, it was so pretty, clean and nice. Staff were so friendly, there were lots of places that had food and restaurants, even stores if we needed something."
"Absolutely loved this place. It’s like the perfect cross between B&B and hotel. The staff was delightful. We really enjoyed the speakeasy in the basement (hi Jim!). We met so many fellow travelers there. The location is perfect. Portsmouth is a great town, totally walkable, very safe and we can’t wait to come back. Highly recommend staying here"
"Best vacation spot we have ever been to. The Inn is private, quiet, well designed and cared for.
The garden is glorious and was soothing to our city-weary brains.
We will definitely be returning to Martin Hill Inn. Portsmouth has so much to offer for a relaxing getaway. I recommend staying at least 3 nights."

"The location is really good for access to Portsmouth. There's a lot of foot traffic on the street below, but you don't hear that in the apartment. It's on the small side, but large enough, with a separate living area and kitchen. Joy is a great host. She's very connected and attends to any issues that come up. "
