"We thoroughly appreciated this peaceful, private home away from home, which far exceeded our expectations. It was spacious, light-filled, had phenomenal ventilation, and was equipped with thoughtful amenities: refrigerator/freezer, hot plate, microwave oven, and coffee maker with all the fixings and snacks to boot. "This is a beautiful, large house designed and constructed in the 1930s for a wealthy Hilo family. The main interiors are dark wood, with original custom bannisters and similar craftsmanship, and the furnishings are period-correct. The present owners have upgraded in various ways, including adding in-room air conditioning (we didn't need, but it was nice to have the option), retrofitted bathrooms, kitchen, wiring, and similar. "The three of us were very comfortable in suite 1 with the little twin window bed. The sound of the ocean drowned out the songs of the coqui frogs. It was a great location to see the sights on the Hilo side. The breakfast was amazing: fresh fruit, French toast or coconut pancakes, eggs to order, and juice. They have a little cabinet with first aid items and extra sunscreen.The hosts were caring and thoughtful. Would definitely recommend this place!!!"

"The remodel/update of the hotel is nice. The bathroom mirror light fixture is great, your skin looks beautiful and tan. Everything worked, AC/refrigerator/fan. Easy parking, free drinking water and coffee in the lobby. It was enjoyable "

"Great spot for a visit to the rocky beach just a few minutes walk. That was a pleasant surprise. Also have accessible kitchen. Nice quaint little place. "

"Our stay at the grand Naniloa was ok. I would say 3 stars. Not 4 and it wouldn't allow me to unclick that 1 star. Staff was great but the only down fall I really hated about staying here is because I feel they did not accommodate the guests parking at their property. Every parking stall in the property was only valid for valet parking which was $25. Can u imagine paying that for everyday of your stay. They make you park across the street in a remote empty parking area where there is low light...

"It’s a utilitarian budget hotel without some pretty standard amenities like AC or in room WiFi, but for what it is it’s fantastic. Very close to some beautiful parks, and the bay views are great. "
