![It's hard to believe that this structure was almost never built. And if its benefactor had succeeded in an earlier attempt, we would now know it as one of Hungary's "Seven Wonders of the World."  Instead, Arizona can claim that title, and did so formally in 2007.

It served for years as the official house of worship for the local Catholic diocese, but was eventually too small to house the congregants who regularly gathered for the mass. 

Today, it serves as a place of pilgrimage and meditation for people of all faiths, though I'm sorry to report that it is often swarmed with tourists and plagued by what can only be described as poorly managed crowd control.

No matter.  You can turn all that off rather quickly once you catch a glimpse of it.  The church just cannot help but draw you in.  Take a moment to sit down inside -- a place often empty, despite the whirling activity outside.

There you'll find that bit of peace the place was built to give you.  And you'll be thankful for the respite, until you have to return to the world outside.

« We loved our stay here! Parking was great l, room was clean grounds were so serene and beautiful and relaxing. The room was adorable and all the nice little touches of water, ice, tea with kettle. All great! Bed was comfy fireplace was amazing it was so cold the weekend we stayed. It was so cozy. « Mon épouse et moi, couple dans la soixantaine, avions choisi le Penrose sur internet, basé sur les photos et la description des lieux. Lorsque nous sommes arrivés devant l'établissement nous étions déjà très heureux de notre choix, le décor était splendide, l'accueuil et la visite des lieux communs incluant notre chambre étaient vraiment conforme à nos attentes. Nous avons passé qu'une nuit au Penrose, lit et chambre très confortable et petit déjeuner copieux, les hôtes ont été très charmants. ...
