La chapelle Sainte-Croix est l'un des plus magnifiques sites de Sedona. Cette chapelle catholique a été construite sur un éperon rocheux qui s'élève à 60mètres du sol. Une croix de 27mètres à couper le souffle en occupe le centre et donne l'impression qu'elle est coincée dans la roche. Admirez cette incroyable structure, qui semble être un prolongement naturel des buttes rouges distinctives qui l'entourent. Marguerite Brunswig Staude, une éleveuse et artiste locale, a conçu le monument en1932\. Inspirée par l'Empire State Building nouvellement construit, MmeStaude a voulu créer une église dans ce style. La construction fut achevée en1956, après seulement 18mois de travaux. En1957, l'American Institute of Architects lui a décerné sa mention d'honneur. Elle ne cesse de nous fasciner depuis. Laissez-vous émerveiller par l'extérieur spectaculaire de la chapelle, qui s'étend depuis les parois rocheuses rouges. Entrez dans la chapelle et remarquez l'intérieur simple et intime. Les murs angulaires et la lumière naturelle qui s'infiltre en donnent l'impression d'un endroit où le ciel rencontre la terre. La croix impressionnante située dans la partie centrale est la pièce maîtresse de la structure, à l'intérieur comme à l'extérieur. Flanquée de fenêtres du sol au plafond, elle offre une vue magnifique sur les roches rouges de Sedona. La chapelle Sainte-Croix est à dixminutes en voiture au sud à partir du cœur de Sedona. Il y a un grand stationnement et des chemins dégagés menant à l'entrée cependant, la montée est plutôt escarpée. La boutique de cadeaux au rez-de-chaussée propose une merveilleuse sélection de souvenirs, notamment des rosaires et des croix faites de pierres trouvées dans la région. La chapelle est libre d'accès et est ouverte tous les jours sauf le Vendredi saint, à Pâques, à l'Action de grâce et à Noël.
