"The hotel felt a little run down with only one lift in operation. Breakfast was ok, the staff were responsive once I had pointed out that some of the food needed replenishing, eg fried eggs, ham and cheese. The bed was very comfortable but the TV was poor and remote had no battery cover and batteries kept on getting dislodged. Also, the TV and aerial were not plugged in when I arrived. The bath was lukewarm in the evening, although the shower temperature appeared better in the morning. The reception staff member on arrival was very friendly and helpful and was able to let me in to my room early. All in all, an adequate experience, with the positives down to staff service."

"Location was the only good thing about the hotel. Disappointed from the minute we arrived. The main entrance was more like a fire exit/side door out of a night club. Reception atmosphere was cold and clinical, self check in via online screens, no warm welcome from staff even though there were a few looking on. Check in not available until 3pm. My elderly parents and I arrived approx 12pm after travelling many hours with 2 small hand luggage, to attend theatre at 2pm, so I approached staff to ask if we could store our luggage. I was told this would cost £15 per item (£30) or £40 early check in. I felt completely conned by this, and noticed many others being caught out the same way. I have stayed in many hotels across the world and never been charged for this service it has always been a free courtesy. I even asked if there was any other storage places in the locality & staff said "I don't know". I have since discovered there is a storage facility nearby at Picadilly underground that charges £5. We reluctantly opted for early check in hoping to freshen up & relax in our room before going out, but there wasn't even a chair in the room and the beds were on the floor, not good for my parents at all. The whole hotel was dark and gloomy with no natural light. No comfort, no privacy with the toilet behind a misted glass door and open shower with no door at all. No facilities in the room. Nowhere to store anything. I would not recommend, have stayed in more comfortable budget hotels!"

"The room was beautiful and spotless however some of the furniture was a little worn but it added character. They had the tea and coffee box well stocked and not with just the standard tea and coffee but with the flavoured tea and decaf coffee plus they had shower gel, shampoo and conditioner as well as if you had forgotten anything you could ask for a guest pack (toothpaste, toothbrush, razors etc). On our first day we had and issue with the iron leaking, light blinking and not warming up so contacted reception and a brand new one was delivered to our room immediately. What we weren't made aware of is there was a £50 deposit upon arrival (not including what we had already paid for staying there). The staff are very friendly, they had live entertainment on Saturday night and there's 3 ways to eat at the hotel (room service, Ribs grill and bar food). Thank you for the comfortable stay."

"Enjoyed our overnight stay in the Celtic Manor and had time to recharge our batteries. The male member of staff at Reception was exceptional! (Sorry we didn't make a note of his name.) He was particularly welcoming, helpful and informative about all amenities available and booked all the little extras for us. The staff at 'The Grill' were also great, where we enjoyed a tasty meal in a relaxing atmosphere. Additionally, the breakfast offered plenty of variety the following morning. We opted to pay extra for a room with a balcony, however, although it was clean, comfortable and looked nice enough, on close inspection it needed a make-over and a lot of TLC. The balcony was shoddy and the door leading out to it didn't close properly so it was draughty. However, the worst experience for us during this visit was the pool and spa. Despite booking our 'slot', it was full to the brim. There were adults and children diving in to the pool even though there were lifeguards on duty and signs to discourage this. The steam room and jacuzzi / hot tubs were also jammed packed, and so were impossible to sample and enjoy. This aspect was disappointing and unacceptable."
