The best area to stay in Riccio is the historic town centre, particularly around the Piazza della Cisterna and Via San Giovanni.

This is the heart of Riccio, where centuries of history are etched into every stone building and narrow alleyway. The Piazza della Cisterna, with its ancient well, is a natural gathering point, surrounded by artisan shops, trattorias, and gelato parlours. Via San Giovanni, one of the main thoroughfares, offers a delightful stroll past independent boutiques and local craft stores. The entire area is designed for walking, with most attractions within easy reach.

For couples seeking a romantic escape, staying within the walls of the historic centre is perfect. You'll find charming boutique hotels located in renovated historic buildings, often with stunning views of the Tuscan countryside from their windows or terraces. Evenings can be spent enjoying intimate dinners at local restaurants or simply wandering the beautifully lit streets.

Families will also find the historic centre convenient, especially those with older children who can appreciate the history and enjoy exploring the towers and museums like the Museo Civico.

The best times to visit Riccio are during the shoulder seasons of April to June and September to October, when the weather is pleasant and the region is less crowded.

April to June offers warm, sunny days great for exploring the countryside, with temperatures typically ranging from 15°C to 25°C. This period is ideal for couples who enjoy outdoor activities like cycling through vineyards or exploring hilltop towns without the intense summer heat. The landscape is lush and green, and many local festivals celebrating spring produce begin.

September to October also provides lovely weather, with temperatures between 18°C and 28°C, and the grape harvest (vendemmia) is in full swing, making it a fantastic time for wine enthusiasts. Solo travellers might find this period particularly rewarding for culinary experiences, including truffle hunting excursions and cooking classes focused on seasonal ingredients. The autumn colours in the vineyards add to the scenic beauty.
