Not ready for guests
This home is in a good location but it really wasn’t ready for guests. For example, we arrived and went grocery shopping, but when we opened the fridge it was full of the owners’s food and smelled nasty. There were moldy vegetables and even a green smoothie that went bad over the next three days. We found a garage fridge and put our groceries there instead so we wouldn’t have to open the main fridge. The kitchen smelled worse and worse and started stinking up the house and we finally tracked it down to a rotting onion that had been left by the owner.
There was nowhere for guests to store belongings. Every single closet had a sign that said “Please don’t touch.” We had brought a suit for an event and ended up hanging it on a doorknob. The master bedroom had no nighttables, no storage, no light except for the overhead. It felt like living in someone else’s college dorm for $650/night.
There was no hand soap at all, and when I texted the host, they said, “We don’t use hand soap.” Okay, ew, but most guests do. There was also no toilet paper or HOLDER in the main bathroom, and although we eventually found the TP, it was annoying to have to keep it on the counter.
Prepare to be grossed out in the bathroom- the owner’s toothbrushes and toothpaste were left in a cup on the sink, caps off and oozing toothpaste. There were so many bottles of shampoo on the shower shelf that there was literally no room for even a guests’ razor.
To top it off, there was a pet bunny living in the front yard. Our kids loved the bunny but got concerned because it didn’t have any water. We gave it water and texted the host to let them know the water dish was empty, and they thanked us and asked us to feed it, too (!)????! Weirdest thing that has ever happened to me at a VRBO.
Overall, our family was looking forward to this vacation but it ended up being stressful. We spent as much time out of the house as possible. It seemed like the owners were trying to make a quick buck without really putting in the effort to make it ready for guests.
