When is the best time to go to Ely?

The best time to visit Ely is typically during the warmer months, from late spring to early autumn (May to September), when the weather is generally pleasant for exploring. May and June offer milder temperatures and longer daylight hours, making it ideal for enjoying outdoor activities like boat trips on the River Great Ouse or exploring the Cathedral grounds. You'll also find the gardens in full bloom, adding to the city's beauty. July and August are the warmest months, superb for those who enjoy sunny weather. This period often sees various local events and festivals, providing more entertainment options. However, it can also be the busiest time, so booking accommodation and popular attractions in advance is advisable. September brings cooler, crisp air and often beautiful autumn colours, particularly appealing for walking or cycling around the Fens.
