"They didn't provide room there saying it's already fully booked. Then they given room in a nearby lodge which is totally sub standard even their tab water is dirty and smelly. They also told that they have no tie up with Expedia and their room tariff was only Rs. 3500 (with breakfast). While Expedia charged Rs. 7800 for the the same. It is totally unfair from Expedia.com side, they should make partial refund for this.."

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Bumthang?
The best area to stay in Bumthang is Jakar, the administrative centre of the Bumthang Valley.

Jakar is a small, spread-out town located in a wide glacial valley. It's home to Jakar Dzong, a prominent fortress monastery that sits on a ridge overlooking the valley, and the town itself is built around a central market area. You'll find most of the local shops, guesthouses, and restaurants along the main road that winds through the valley. It's a peaceful area with stunning views of the surrounding hills and farmland.

For couples seeking a tranquil retreat and cultural immersion, Jakar is ideal. You can easily visit ancient temples like Jambay Lhakhang and Kurjey Lhakhang, both just a short drive or pleasant walk from the town centre. The serene setting and opportunities for gentle hikes make it great for a relaxing trip.

Solo travellers will also find Jakar to be a welcoming base. The main street offers opportunities to connect with locals and fellow travellers, and the area provides a good starting point for exploring the valley's many monasteries and natural beauty at your own pace.
When is the best time to go to Bumthang?
The best time to visit Bumthang is during the spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) months, when the weather is most pleasant for exploring the valley.

During spring, the rhododendrons and other wildflowers are in bloom, painting the valleys with colour. The temperatures are mild, making it ideal for trekking and visiting the many monasteries and temples without the discomfort of extreme heat or cold. This period is particularly good for those who enjoy outdoor activities and photography.

Autumn offers clear skies and comfortably cool temperatures after the monsoon season. This is also when many of Bumthang's vibrant festivals, known as 'Tshechus,' take place, offering a unique opportunity to witness traditional Bhutanese culture and celebrations.
