![Those of you who were reading my discoveries back in March will recall a rather...um...extended discussion about the battle my partner and I had with the Cold Creek Trail leading to Devil's Peak.

We fought the snow, downed timber and five times losing and re-finding the trail only to have to stop about a half-mile from the end; hip deep in snow and a bit forlorn and defeated.

Well, today we returned to the Cold Creek Trail.  There is no snow on the ground, but with a 2,300-foot elevation in a little more than three and a half miles, it managed to whoop us pretty well anyway.

Still, the bete noir is vanquished. The hill has been climbed.

I'll have more on this in the near future, but for now, take a gander at the fire lookout at the summit.  No longer active, it is still maintained (by whom, I can't tell you), and serves as a first-come-first-served camping spot, fully equipped with cots, a wood stove, and a ukulele.

« We booked this stay to celebrate my 63rd birthday with our son, daughter-in-law, and almost 2 year old granddaughter. It was the perfect place! This is a beautifully appointed condo that is also very welcoming. The main living space is bright and has great views of the golf course and the evergreens of the Mount Hood National Forest. The kitchen has everything anyone could need to cook there but there are also plenty of restaurants nearby. Timberline Lodge is just a short - and scenic - 25...

« We had a great time at this home! It was clean and the interior of the home was very nice! Overall a 5 star place, but I do want to make some comments on a few things that could be helpful for the owners to do. The stove top on the oven was a little confusing at first, since the knobs on the stove top to turn on are not in the correct order. It would be nice to have extra cooking items, like for cooking sheets and plates. The master bed mattress needs to be replaced, it gives way too much and...

« There was a fire waiting when we arrived. The new hot tub was private and dry! Private home with all we needed for the Christmas weekend. Very easy access to stores, bars and restaurants. Home is clean, comfortable and dog friendly. Bonus: A SWING. Will be returning. Thank you for having us. »
