Great Family Hotel

Posted 14-Jul-2017
Pros: The large room and modern spacious bathrooms . The front desk staff was very helpful and pleasant. We were able to walk to hotel from train station .
Cons: The lobby needs to be remodeled and dated sofas need to be replaced with updated ones. The breakfast needs more choices.
Location: Perfect location near train and bus station. There are many nice restaurants in the area.
Stayed in a superior room for 2 nights. The room size was perfect for our family of 4. Lots of space and very nicely remodeled room and bathrooms.

Based on the photos and previous reviews, this hotel was incredibly deceiving. It was easily the worst night stay of our 2 week trip in Italy. We expected a beautiful hotel, in a former monastery but were instead greeted with an out of date, dingy hotel. Very disappointed and do not plan to return.

Excellent hotel in a good location

Posted 11-Jul-2017
Two minutes from the train station, in a perfect and very quiet location. The hotel has a lot of charm and the garden is excellent and well cared for. Hotel staff extremely friendly and helpful I could not fault them in any way. We had a Jonior suite which had ample space, this was on the second floor with only stair access which was not a problem for us but might be a problem for some. Breakfast was good and nice to eat out in the garden. Afternoon tea and cake was a lovely treat after a day out and about. Vaporetto stop one minute away and good shopping and resterants around the corner. Only minor down side is the hotel has no laundry or ironing facilities. San Marco is twenty minutes away by vaporetto and good 45 minute walk. Overall an excellent hotel

nice hotel with courtyard

Posted 11-Jul-2017
Pros: location to transportation and the quiet section just over the Scalzi Bridge. Near the Guglie bridge where you can catch the water taxi to the airport
Cons: Staff was helpful but not overly friendly
Location: Walking distance to shops, restaurants,, bus, train water taxi , Rialto Bridge and San Marco Plaza are a nice long walk.
Hotel was fine for our stay as it was convenient to the Saint Lucia train station and near the bus terminal. It is a long walk over the bridge from the bus station with luggage. Room was fine and adequate for our needs. Breakfast was fine -, pastries, fruit, cappuccino. lovely courtyard. It is far from Saint Marks square but near other nice sections of Venice. Hotel is on a quiet side street just off the main busy tourist street. Great location for transportation including a main stop for the water taxis. no elevator - lots of stairs. Porters will help carry luggage if you request assistance.

Great Location

Posted 10-Jul-2017
Pros: Love the history
Cons: the A/C, room never felt cool.
This is a great location when traveling by train, you don't have far to pull your luggage. This is the second time that I have stayed at this hotel.

Very friendly staff and quite hotel

Posted 18-Jun-2017
Pros: quite, friendly staff, good location
Cons: having an elevator will be nice
Location: our favorite town in Venice was San Marco. Also visiting tower in St. Mark's Square was nice. Great view from the top. 8 euro and cash only.
I've searched many hotels in Venice and I am glad we stayed at this hotel. It is 2 min walk from the train station. The hotel staff was very responsive through Expedia message like getting back to me within a few minutes! We asked for a quite room so we got a very quiet 3rd floor room. Hotel staff was very friendly and speaks good English. Outdoor breakfast place is very nice. To get to the hotel from the Airport, there are 2 different bus lines (ACTV # 5 and ATVO FLYBUS) leaving very frequently to Venice-Piazzale Roma (bust stop you get off and from the stop it is about 5-8 min walk to the hotel). The small issue that we has was that we were 2 girls with a big heavy luggage per person and there was a big bridge with stairs to cross on the way to hotel from the bus stop. No alternate route. If you have a small luggage, you would be fine but with a big heavy luggage, it is kind of hard to cross the big bridge with stairs so we had to hire a guy who carries luggages on his big cart (near the bust station). He charged us 5 euro per luggage to the hotel so we paid 10 total. The bus is 8 euro from the airport and water bus is 25 euro I think. So depending on your situation, taking water bus (which is more expensive than the bus) could be a better idea so that you don't have to cross the bridge if you have a heavy luggage.

Incredible staff and lovely bonuses!

Posted 11-Jun-2017
Pros: For all the extras, it is a good value for money. The staff will really make your visit. Ask for recommendations!
Cons: Even though this is a 3 star accommodation, the rooms could use some refurbishment and updating. The rooms were cleaned, but didn't feel "clean".
Location: Lots of dining options and close to transportation hubs. Conveniently located, yet quiet.
I want to emphasize that this is a 3 star accommodation, and if you are not familiar with the star system in Europe you should definitely look it up before booking so you can have reasonable expectations. That being said, in so many ways Hotel Abbazia exceeded our expectations. We knew it would cost more to stay on Venice, but after reading reviews online and in Rick Steve's, I am so glad we paid the bit extra and choose Hotel Abbazia. If arriving by train, the location is unbeatable--close to vaporetto stations, the bus terminal, and train station while still being very peaceful and quiet. We had a basic triple room (304), which was in need of major updates (water damage in the bathroom, dated and dusty fabric wall coverings and headboard), but was fairly comfortable and air conditioned. The breakfast had an excellent selection of hot and cold foods. The sala and garden are just as pictured--comfortable and elegant. Above all, the staff is incredible. I want to especially thank the front desk clerks, Fabio, Matteo, and one more who "chatted with me" through Expedia before we arrived. Not only were they professional, but extremely kind and gave great advice and service. We were able to drop our bags off long before check-in (and found them safely in our rooms!) and we were able to leave the bags long after check-out. Fabio even let us sit in the Sala to take a break before our train. All the staff were incredible and made our stay memorable and comfortable!

memorable stay

Posted 8-Jun-2017
Pros: location and facilities.
Cons: no elevator may be a little concern if you stay on the first floor or above. ground floor is good. bath tub on the 1st and 2nd floor are slippery.
Location: easy to reach all.
great location, friendly staff and clean. breakfast was also good. the bathtub may not be as good as you thought, slippery and you have to hold the shower head for shower. be careful not to fall.

fabulous hotel in the quiet corner, but center to

Posted 6-Jun-2017
Pros: the hotel does not have elevator. however, ask hotel staff for a ground floor, as we did on the returned trip.
Cons: the shower facilities in 1st and 2nd floors are bath tubs, with a hand held shower head. the bath tubs are slippery, as we found in our two rooms.
Location: easy to reach all.
this is our good choice for a beginning of cruise. the hotel has a beautiful court yard, ones can have breakfast and relaxation there.
