Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa

Mercure Nagano Matsushiro Resort & Spa

10/10 Excellent
"Lovely, lovely place. Easily the most pleasant stay in our 4 week stay in Japan. Everything's designed to make feel you welcome and have an unforgettable experience. Staff is extremely helpful, gentle and welcoming. Breakfast buffet is something special, an experience worth living, honestly. For us the only downside is that our room felt very old, it could use a slight renovation, or maybe it's just meant to be like that. Also it's all very family friendly, and they have a shuttle service that takes you from and to Nagano station, which is really helpful. A lovely, lovely place indeed."

Matsumoto Marunouchi Hotel

10/10 Excellent
"A charming hotel with spacious, comfortable rooms and a perfect location — just two blocks from the castle and within walking distance of plenty of restaurants and charming little shops. The only downside is that the breakfast doesn’t offer many Western options, but overall, we really enjoyed our stay!"

Frequently asked questions

What is the best area to stay in Sakaki?
The best area to stay in Sakaki is typically in the central part of town, particularly around Sakaki Station, for convenience and access to local points of interest. This central area is the most developed part of Sakaki, with several local shops, eateries, and accommodation options within walking distance of the station. The main road, Route 18, runs through this area, making it easy to navigate. It's a practical base for exploring the town and nearby attractions.Couples looking for a relaxing and culturally rich experience will find this area suitable. From here, you can easily visit the Sakaki Museum of History and Folklore or take a short trip to the nearby Daio Wasabi Farm. The convenience of being near the station also allows for straightforward day trips to other parts of Nagano Prefecture. For travellers looking for a more tranquil experience, staying slightly outside the immediate town centre, perhaps in an area with a view of the Chikuma River or the surrounding mountains, could be appealing. These locations often offer a more serene setting while still being a short drive from the town's amenities.
When is the best time to go to Sakaki?
The best time to visit Sakaki is during the spring (April to May) for cherry blossoms or autumn (October to November) for stunning foliage.Spring in Sakaki brings pleasant weather, ideal for exploring the town and surrounding nature. The cherry blossom season, typically in April, transforms the landscape with beautiful pink and white blooms, especially around the Uminokuchi Castle Ruins. It's a lovely time for couples to enjoy scenic walks and take in the natural beauty.Autumn offers equally spectacular scenery as the leaves change to vibrant reds, oranges, and yellows. The cooler, crisp air is superb for outdoor activities like hiking or visiting local temples and shrines, such as the Jōraku-ji Temple, which is particularly picturesque against the autumn colours.
