"A lovely hotel with a few surprises. The grounds were magnificent. We had a castle room which from a historical point of view was wonderful. The wardrobe was a bonus! "
"The room was comfortable and quiet. Staff were welcoming and the breakfast was great. We ate at the pub on a couple of evenings. The food was excellent. Would highly recommend. "
"All en-suite rims are different. Heavy wooden bed, headboard and furniture. Small en-suite but fully functional and lovely shower.
Will definitely stay again."

Lumley Castle Hotel
10/10 Excellent
"Stayed here whilst visiting Durham with my son. A really lovely hotel. Genuine castle. Really well kept."
"Nice place to stay easy to find and plenty of parking spaces. Chose here as reasonably priced and close to a running event a family member was attending "
"A great property with leisure facilities and parking close to Durham (<10 minute drive or park and ride opposite carriageway)
Room was lovely but surprised no air conditioning or fridge and it did get a little hot overnight "
"Great positive experience. The room was every thing I needed and the staff were very helpful. It was great to have the spa next door which is why I came to this hotel"
"It’s a lovely hotel and very convenient stop. The staff were super friendly and helpful.
We only had breakfast but it was delicious and plenty of it. The decor was lovely but needed a bit of tidying and the vase on the table needed a clean. I’m not keen on fake flowers which gather dust and the winter sun shows the glass vase needing a polish.
I’m being picky hoping I’m being helpful. It was a fab stay and I thoroughly recommend it and would stay again. "
3 bedroom accommodation in Houghton Le Spring, near Durham
10/10 Excellent
"Amazing accomodation, Wendy the host is so welcoming and the Barn was perfect
Ample parking, lovely surroundings, fantastic wi-fi . The accommodation is so clean and finished in a high standard. Upon our very late arrival Wendy was there to welcome us and provided a welcome basket and Prosecco.
All rooms are superb inc bedding and towels and living space so comfy.
Kithen is fully equipped and huge. Perfect for a wkd away or longer. Would highly recommend and will be back if we travel up North again"
"Pros:
Really good communication from host. Decorated nicely. Log burner (extra charge if using hosts logs). Milk in fridge. 8 minutes drive to Beamish museum. 4 minutes drive to a really good play park and splash area, by the river. Comfy beds and bedding. The accommodation was really clean. Shower heats up quick, large shower head.
Dog bowls and biscuit treats - nice extra.
Cons:
Oven was broken by previous guest (on request, host was really good at providing air fryers). Beds not great if you're over 6ft tall. Shower area is quite small. An extra toilet downstairs would be a bonus."
