Property is in a great location and clean. However the major problem is reception is only manned a few hours a day so the chances are you will have to call a Portuguese number upon arrival to give you an access code to get into the property. This was very stressful as my phone could not dial an international number so I had to borrow a phone.

Where to begin... The description clearly states 24hr reception. There is no 24 hr reception. You need to call the number listed on the property entrance door to speak to an employee, who will then either attend the property. I had been to the unattended property days earlier, and after no luck, sent several messages advising of my early arrival. I was advised not to worry- someone would be there. No one was there. I was waiting outside for 30minutes- in the heat with my luggage. Luckily another guest exited the building and I was able to gain entry whereby the nice cleaning lady stored my bags. I think it's pretty disgusting that a paying guest needs to wait outside. I had booked a room with a double bed and 2x twin beds and a private bathroom with rainwater shower head. What I received was not as pictured. It was a dated room with 3 X single beds. And there was no rainwater shower head. There was no fan although it was requested at check in it was a 35° day- the room was warm! Normally there are tea/coffee making facilities - this is just a room with beds, a wardrobe with no doors. Nothing else. After 5pm- there are no staff on site. So I could not request a hair dryer. Or follow up on the fan. The building was uninviting, dark and old. It was overpriced. It was worse than any accommodation I had stayed this far- and I have stayed in afew hostels previously. Stay away

You did not wait for 30 minutes outside. There is always someone around, if you call in 5 minutes I am always here, unless you need 24 hours care service. the kitchen and coffe facilities are on the top floor, not inside the room. we were here at the reception until 5 you did not remember to ask fot the hair dryer or fan? And why on earth you wanted to chek in 5 days before arrival. We do not allow that for securuty reason. you wanted to enter the permisses without identifying yourself? Take care, is much needed for you.

Good Value Central Hotel
Friendly staff on check in and great location, especially for the price. A little dated inside but characterful and comfortable nonetheless. Nice balconies and shutters, at least on the front facing rooms.

Little room with a private bathroom and upstairs shared kitchen. Location is great, if you rent a scooter, there is a free parking just outside on the street. Traffic noise and the fish smell from a restaurant downstairs is not so great though. Overall, great value.

this place is all about location, right next to the market and easy to get to anywhere you care to visit in funchal or visit using public transport. that does mean noise, especially in rooms at the front, the back was quieter. the hotel is basic, old fashioned and could use some tlc, particularly in the bathrooms but you get what you pay for, cheap and just about cheerful. the staff were great and the manager very friendly.

The stay was ok but I wouldn’t stay again. It was always noisy outside and the room walls are paper thin. We had a shared balcony so no window to open. It was clean enough but a daily sweep would have been appreciated. Overall the whole room really needs attention, it’s old and tattered. On a positive, the bed was comfy enough. Most staff were friendly but one in particular was awkward.

night receptionist wasn’t happy to open door for us. he was complaining instead. Residential facing the big Market therefore too much noise from very early in the morning. Location was absolutely central and only a minute away to restaurants, bars and shops. Toilette sink was blocked and very uncomfortable to use. Shower plate without any cover box and so bathroom always full of water. I tried to talk to team regarding those issues but they wouldn’t be able to help. Only boss apparently could have done something about it but I didn’t see him at all.

The location of the hotel is great the market is right there and the beach but halfway through our stay there was construction going on juat above the room and it was really loud and they would start frm 8 am till 13pm ish. I understand that they have to do the job but i don't understand why the hotel didn't warn us about it. As soon i said about this problem to the reception the noise stop for 30 min. Just disappointed about that

Basic but clean, en suite ,Perfect!
In the best position in central Funchal, next to old town and new town, no walking up the dreaded hill to the clinical hotel zone!! Clean , en suite, memory foam mattress on bed.Nice and quiet.Lovely restaurants in two minutes walk.This is basic but we will return at the drop of a hat.Enjoy local Madeiran life in and around this small pension.Great.

I was very suprised. Positive. I recomend rhis place everyone who want to sleep for less money. Room was big and clean enought space for 2 persons. Same is the bathroom clean. The maneger Chavez was very friendly and kind. He offerd us best what he could. If you want to wisit such island as Madeira there is a sin to stay in hotel over day. You must be outside and explore. 100% We come back to stay in this hotel.

Terrible, please avoid this scam
You book one hotel, pictures look not bad. But when you arrive their manager who speaks no english takes you to OTHER hotel. Their manages offers you "better" room which looks like a storage room with three small bed and no place to walk. After long arguing they offer you other room which is still from 80's and super small. Noise coming from drunk neighbours on the street all night long, room dirty, asking to clean it does not help. Please avoid as they dont give you anything like in the pictures.

Good: * cheap * walking distance to city center (a few min) * 2 super markets are nearby: Pingo Doce is in shopping center (by bus stops). Continente is also nearby. Pingo Doce is our go-to-place for breakfast: decent cafe + nice variety of pastries (yum!) * neighborhood is safe * across from Mercado do Lavradores, we can see fish market from our room * 24H front desk, only one guy speaks some English, and another guy doesn't speak English at all. But they're nice. * good WiFi signal. This is because our room is next to front desk Bad: * There're 2 bars on the same streets, which means loud noises till late night. Plus, Mercado do Lavradores opens early in the morning, which leaves you only a few hours of quiet time. This is because we had to open the window as there's no AC in room. It might not be a problem in winter. * only soap is provided, and cleaning service doesn't supply till I asked to the front desk * towels were old and hard * Shower area was small * My husband saw roach on the 1st night. Since then, we don't bring food to our room. But roach is more of island problem, and not hotel's problem. Room Tip: 3rd FL room for less noise Bring Shampoo & Soap

Thanks to the stuff of the hotel, we had a great time! Rooms were clean, first we had a room towards the market, but got it changed as it was a bit noisy. Everybody was very helpful and kind with us!

Basic, cheap, clean, very good central location.
A small, basic hotel. Rooms fairly small ( but not so small as to be a problem ), clean and cleaned daily. Beds good, shower good. Staff spoke little english, but were always friendly and very helpful ( we broke the key to our room in the lock at 2200 one night, so couldn't get in, the man on reception tried to open the door but failed, so called someone out to fix it. ) Not all rooms have a balcony, you really do need a balcony room, even in early December we came back from eating and sat out until midnight. The location is brilliant, centre of Funchal, bus stations, cable car, sea front, old town restaurant area all within a couple of hundred yards, Balconies overlook a busy, narrow street with bars and cafes and the city market on the other side. Great for wathcing the locals go about their lives, never too noisy though. No food / bar at the hotel, but other bars / cafes close for breakfast. We spent most days walking the levadas, a brilliant way of seeing the island. Probably not good for younger families, but if you are looking for a base that is clean, cheap but very cheerful in a good location this hotel ticks all the boxes.

best possible location if you are travelling around by buses. close to Pingo Doce, Mercado dos Lavradores, good inexpensive restaurants on Rua de Santa Maria, cafes and snackbars around Mercado. Friendly and helpful staff. Probably the best value for money in whole Funchal. Slightly noisy outside especially in the morning. Creaking bed in room no. 33

I had read some good reviews about this place before we went and looking at the photos we thought we had booked a good place. Unfortunately we were given a room next to the reception. When we entered the room it was not like the photos. The room was very dark even with the windows open. The bathroom wasn't good either. The noise during the night was horrible. For a cheap place it was in a good area though. Good for people only staying a few days, we were very pleased we only had 2 nights there.

Close to all visiting areas in Funchal. Easy to buy fresh vegetables, fruits, bakery. Though some previous reviews point to noise because of market, it is not that much annoying, It worth money spent, we enjoyed our stay.

It was horrible. They claim to have a 24/7 reception but when we arrived in the night, there was no one there. It took 17 minutes of calling numbers before the owner picked up the phone. It took another 20 minutes before he called us back to give us a code to enter the building (which hadn’t been send before at expedia). The rooms were old, stain on the bed. But we were glad that we had a place to stay for the night.
