Tokyu Stay Nishi Shinjuku

"The property is old; on the floors you can feel smell coming from old carpets that were cleaned numerous times. The rooms are very small, there are no places to accommodate your luggage, no cabinets. This so called hotel looks more like an Air B&B created by a group of students who want to learn how to run a hotel. The final straw was their "continental breakfast" that consisted of rice bought at a convenient store which guests should prepare by themselves using a provided rice cooker. Also provided is a piece of refrigerated packed salmon, which was salty, and guests need to warm it up in a provided microwave oven. The "hotel" call this breakfast and charges about $20 per day. Absolutely no taste and waste of money. Better to go to a nearby Denny's Cafe. But they provide free coffee, water. The "hotel" is more or less clean. The bathrooms are clean. They even put a washing machine in every room. The lobby is very tiny. I understand that in Tokyo real estate is very, very expensive. They charge guests less per night than big network hotels. In New York city I paid similar amount staying in a Marriott hotel. It was not possible to change the hotel because there were no vacant rooms in̈ nearby hotels like Hilton, Hyatt Regency with much hire rates per night. The area is excellent, quiet and green, even I would say upscale. The subway is close."

"The staff go above and beyond at the Nohga Hotel and were so helpful with any questions and requests. The hotel provides a pack with plenty of recommendations for restaurants and things to do with their own comment, and will help with booking if you need. The hotel also has its own restaurant and bakery both of which I would strongly recommend (including the breakfast) as well as a rooftop bar. Despite so much going on in the hotel there was never an issue with noise. Good location with no more than a 10 minute walk to Kiyomizu-Gojo train station, and a bus stop close by. I would strongly recommend this hotel."

THE KNOT TOKYO Shinjuku

"The hotel is directly opposite the beautiful Shinjuku Chuo Park and while we were there, so were the Tokyo Lights, which made the park very magical at night. The hotel is 10 minutes walk from Tochomae Station and around 15 minutes walk from Shinjuku Station, a further 5 minutes into Shinjuku itself, so is very well located. There is a bakery and breakfast buffet at the hotel, also lunches dinners are served both downstairs and on the 2nd floor grill. We upgraded to a superior room, but could have done with something bigger for the 2 of us, but the hotel was fully booked. My son had a superior room to himself and it was ample size for him. The towels are changed daily, however, the tea and coffee weren’t replenished, but this wasn’t a problem, as there is a family mark, a minutes walk from the hotel and 2 cafes in the park, one which does the famous fluffy pancakes. The hotel was buzzing all day long, even the locals came to eat here. The food was very good."

Sakura Hotel Hatagaya

"Hotel is nicely located just a five minute walk from Hatagaya Station, giving you good access to the rest of the city. The surrounding neighborhood is cozy with a couple convenience store just steps out the front door. A shot walk also to Yoyogi Park and a couple of lovely shrines. The front desk staff was ever present and courteous. The free breakfast mostly consists of coffee, tea, juice, and some toast with butter and jam. Enough to get you started on your day. We stayed in the “Japanese style” room. It’s comfortable and utilitarian with a small kitchenette. You are susceptible to outside noise from trucks and other passerby’s from behind the building but otherwise, a good base for active sights. All in all, a good value proposition."

"We chose this place for the location. But there were a lot more to it than just the great location. The amenities were awesome: got a bag of clean PJs and a set of towels every day delivered by the door and the selections of tea were great. The best part was the water pressure of the shower! Although the room was really tiny, just enough for 2 retired adults who used the room just for sleeping and resting."

"Our room was cleaned daily. Did not have much contact with staff apart from when we first checked in. Breakfast is not provided, but you can have breakfast at local restaurant. Laundry room was fine. We found the small double quite claustrophobic and too small."

"The most sympathetic place and staff unfortunately they are closing (first the restaurant, then the hotel) and as such demotivation, esp. by cleaning staff can be sensed, making the use of shower facilities uncomfortable. I wish them to get new energy through a renovation and/or new ownership, as the place is well-located just by a metro station and many small restaurants and other shops with good prices compared to central Tokyo or even, more touristic places in that area"
