Find hotels in Kalaupapa, HI from CA $220

The best time to visit Kalaupapa is during the dry season, which runs from April to October, as this period offers the most favourable weather conditions.

During these months, you'll experience less rainfall and more sunshine, making outdoor activities, such as exploring the settlement and enjoying the natural beauty of the peninsula, much more pleasant. The trails are also generally drier and easier to navigate, which is important given the remote nature of Kalaupapa.

For those interested in hiking the Kalaupapa Trail, the dry season is particularly ideal. The trail can be challenging, and drier conditions reduce the risk of muddy and slippery sections, ensuring a more comfortable and enjoyable trek down the pali (cliffs).

Visiting in the dry season also increases your chances of clear views of the dramatic coastline and the surrounding ocean, which are spectacular.
