The Bott Cott | 3 Bed, 1 Bath

We Limit Our Reservations to Family Groups Only!

Address: 15054 Stickney Ridge Road Grand Haven, MI 49417

Welcome to The Bott Cott! Here, you have access to shared private Lake Michigan beach frontage just down about 50 stairs from the top of the hill. This home is located in the private and wooded Stickney Ridge Association, and just a short drive to Downtown Grand Haven! Spend your days at the beautiful beach and then head back to the house to use the gas grill for dinner. You won't get tired of watching the sunset from the large open deck, or walking the historic association to see all the old homes. This vacation home is minutes away from all of your favorite things to do!

This 3 bedroom cottage is one of the original homes in the historic association. The cottage sleeps 6 people in three bedrooms all on the main floor. Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, bedroom 2 has a full bed, and bedroom 3 has 2 twin beds (trundle). There is a full bathroom connected to the third bedroom and the kitchen. This is a great cottage with an open floor plan that gives everyone enough room to find their spot to relax.  This is not a pet friendly property.

Grand Haven is located on the shores of Lake Michigan. We are a quaint, little beach town recently named the "Happiest Seaside Town in America," by Coastal Living Magazine. Here, your family will find Grand Haven State Park, which was voted in the Top 10 Best Beaches in the world by Travel+Leisure Magazine. The boardwalk stretches one and a half miles, beginning at Chinook Pier and ending at the iconic red lighthouse. Historic, affordable, and amusing, the trolley is continually traveling throughout the waterfront and downtown areas dropping you off at any desired location. At the end of the day, grab a blanket to sit on and head to the Waterfront Stadium where the whole family can enjoy the Musical Fountain. This synchronized lights, water, and music show has coined the title "World's Largest." This free show plays nightly at dusk throughout the summer. Lucky for you, all of this is just minutes away and waiting for you to revel in.

Location can’t be beat
House was just as advertised. The location is fantastic, feeling completely safe and secluded, beach access, yet still just a 5 min drive to groceries Walmart and just a couple more mins to downtown. The home was clean and well kept.the beach is beautiful. The only thing I would have liked to see is a touch more amenities - beach chairs, beach umbrella would have been so great to use (I would have rented them if that were an option nearby but its not). Sheets were not comfortable.

Beach house
It is a very clean, older beach home close to the water. You just walk down the steps, and you are on the beach! The description and pictures are accurate. I had a small issue with the refrigerator leaking, which was resolved immediately. They were easy to contact and attentive. The only drawback is there are no spindles on the house stair railing. The youngest in our family is 5, so we could explain to her how to hold the handrail. A younger child could fall off the steps on the sides since there are no sidewalls or spindles. Other than the stairs, it was perfect for us.

Good place to stay for a long weekend getaway
The property was clean when we checked in. The pictures and ad are accurate. It has all the basic necessities you would need for a comfortable short stay. The location is really close to downtown area and everything else you'd wanna visit and do while in Grand Haven. Only real complain is the single bathroom which can become a problem if more than 2 people stayed in the house. A second bathroom or even half bath would have made this place close to perfect.

Great beach!
The proximity to the beach was great!! The house was clean and very comfortable!! There's covered parking. That was nice. I'm glad I brought my car and not the truck. It wouldn't have fit. The beach sand is like powder! It's beautiful!! I gave 4 stars on the property cleanliness because the vines and bushes in the walkway could be addressed. We really enjoyed our stay!!

Disappointing View
The pictures made it seem like it overlooked the water- there was a large home between this location and the water. You can see the lake from the dining room window, but the pictures make it seem like it is a direct view. The listing says there is a beach view- there is not. To see the beach you need to walk about 100 feet from the bottom of the stairs, then you can see the beach. There are some things about the amenities that are exceedingly cheap- The coffee maker had to cost $14.99. I have stayed in a number of rental homes and nearly everyone has gotten a Keurig and provided some K-cups. The game cupboard was underwhelming. Tell the owner to spend a few dollars to add some amenities! All that being said, I gave it a 4 because these are easily correctible things- it is a beautiful location, but it is a wooded area- we saw a buck and a doe at the bottom of the stairs.

Great property
The property and area were very nice. The beach is accessible down a flight of stairs and a there's a ~20 minute walk to the lighthouse down the beach. The owners seemed suspicious of us initially, and said that they didn't rent to non-family groups. I'm not sure if they've had problems with partying, but it was a little weird and stressful to think we'd have to change plans if we didn't give them reason enough not to cancel our reservation. That being said, when we told them we just wanted a nice weekend by the lake, they were fine.

Great Location
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Bott Cott! Location is great and gives you the benefits of both town and beach. It's a short drive to the main local shopping strip and an easy walk down to the beach as conveyed in the listing. There's a book with lots of local recommendations which was great to use, we ended up at the farmers market Saturday morning for a beautiful morning. The only things I feel could be improved are resources in the house. The house isn't missing anything crazy and I wasn't hoping for anything excessive, but I found it was just short of being a complete basic package missing things like cooking spray. Of course it was stated on the listing that there is very minimal resources like no extra toiletries, minimal kitchen supplies, etc., so it's an accurate claim. However, adding those things would take the property to another level and more accurately reflect the welcoming and helpful hosts. A more thorough description on where the private beach is would be very helpful. We followed the instructions to go down the stairs and then just picked a spot. We were informed by neighbors that it's a specific area, from one spot to another, on the beach that belongs to the house. This would be helpful to know so visitors aren't imposing on neighbors. Overall we all enjoyed our stay and would stay again!

Beautiful!
We really enjoyed our stay in the Bott Cott! We enjoyed eating and coffee on the deck with a water view. The house was clean, comfortable and very well equipped with everything for our stay. We did notice a few large aunts in the home throughout out stay, but no big deal. There was also an interesting smell when we first arrived. We didn’t know if it was bc it was so close to the water or what, but it was fine and we didn’t notice it the next day. We did have trouble with knowing what beach we were able to use. We were approached twice by homeowners telling us that we were on the wrong beach. Everything is labeled “private beach” and if there is only a section for the Bott Cott we never knew where it was. After we were approached the first time I asked for clarification as to where we could be & was told that where we were was fine, but then was approached again when I was watching my kids swim. That made my son feel uneasy about me being approached by 2 people when I was by myself. Our family didn’t want to get us in trouble with us being on the wrong beach so they didn’t comeback to our place for beach days again. So we didn’t get as much family beach time as we would have liked. But we would come back and stay with our family again.

Very small
The place was clean and easy access to the beach. However, it is very small. There is 1 bathroom that is the smallest bathroom I have ever been in and the third bedroom with the daybed/trundle is so small that there isn't room to set the trundle up. Literally. We had to carry it out in to the living room. Kind of pointless to have the trundle when it won't even fit in the room.

Great Cottage!
This cottage was everything I was hoping it would be! The bedrooms are small and you have to be able to climb steps, but this is a great place to stay. The beach is so close and there are great views of lake Michigan from the house. The beach is also very quiet. Hardly anyone else was out there during our stay. The neighbors are all very friendly and most have been in that area for decades. The cottage is a short drive to downtown Grand Haven, and a few minutes from the local grocery store. The owner is quick to respond and I would definitely rent this cute cottage again.

Gorgeous location, cute cottage, will be back!
This place is absolutely perfect for a quiet beach getaway. While not lake frontage, you can still see the lake from the deck. We had deer (and a newborn fawn!) coming right up to the deck while we sat outside, and were able to walk to the quiet, private beach in just a few steps. The beds were comfy, the place was clean, we will definitely be back!
