We went there 4 nights (Thurs-Sun nights) and each night was totally different. Things start early - like 5pm so plan accordingly. Have lots of $1 and $5 bills for tips when the bands pass the bucket for tips. Dat Dog is way better than expected for a late night snack. The art market is really cool to visit.
Felt uncomfortable as the area had a rundown and abandoned feel to it. We walked the neighborhood in the afternoon. Maybe at night it would pick up but we did not want to risk going there after dark.
Music great but area is rundown and smelly in places.
Just walked down the street one afternoon and the jazz bands were playing everywhere! Another place to visit on my next trip to NOLA.
