Stroll around this former mining settlement to admire its historic buildings. It’s easy enough to find your way around town, but the Yoho National Park Visitor Centre can assist you with a national park pass and sightseeing tips.
While in the visitor centre, view some of the ancient fossils that can be found in this area. Or, if you are fit enough to make it up to the Walcott Quarry, join a guided hike to the Burgess Shale Fossil Beds. As one of the most important fossil beds in the world, this is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It has provided scientists with a better understanding of the origins of life.
Put on your hiking boots and experience the natural beauty of the Yoho National Park, including Takakkaw Falls and Emerald Lake. There is access for all abilities year-round. Don ’t forget to stop at Natural Bridge to witness the power of the Kicking Horse River as it makes its way through the rock.
Driving up Kicking Horse Pass, marvel at the engineering skills used for the Spiral Tunnels. Watch as a train loops through the tunnels to spiral its way up or down the mountain. The two viewing areas are open from mid June through mid October.
