"Lovely traditional ryokan hidden in the mountains. We requested for the morning bus shuttle at JR Hanazono station so that we can explore the serene surroundings prior check in. Ryokan is charming, very clean and well maintained. The Arashiyama Bamboo forest is just a few stops from Hanazono station, so do include that in your itinerary."

"The location and surroundings of this ryokan was perfect after a week of hustle and bustle of Tokyo. The staff was very kind and nice. The food was magnificent in its presentation and taste. The creek on the property was so peaceful and beautiful. Hiking to the various temples was a great fun activity to do as well. Great place to stay away from the hectic town center. "

"Awesome Onsen. Quick check in. The two open air mineral baths were clean, comfortable and relaxing. The one with the huge lava rocks, natural greenery and small waterfall on the 5th floor was my favorite. On the 11th floor the afternoon and evening it was gently raining and sitting in the Onsen with rain coming down made me feel one with the rain and hot water. The food was awesome, a huge variety and more than I could eat. The room was traditional Japanese and comfortable. My husband and I enjoyed our 10th wedding anniversary at Yumotokan."

"It was a relaxing stay. Food was amazing. Convenient and easy for non Japanese people to get to and also very accommodating staff. My only complaint with my stay would be the fact the beds were not that comfortable. Especially considering the prices being asked."

"The shuttle to pickup/drop off to and from Ogoto Onsen Station was great; otherwise, it would be a 10 minutes walk with luggage! Our tatami room was very traditional and offered a great view of the lake. Only downside is no blackout curtain so the room is nice and BRIGHT at 6 o'clock in the morning! The 10-course (I think) dinner was interesting and filling; it took us 2 1/2 hours to finish. One note though, the massage was not very pleasant but then again, the appointment was 10pm so I wasn't expecting a great masseuse at that time. Overall, it was a very pleasant experience."
