Built in 1897 and designed by Daniel H. Burnham and Company of Chicago, the train station was located in the current footprint of the Greater Columbus Convention Center. On October 22, 1976, demolition began despite having been listed on the National Register of Historic Places two years earlier. A restraining order federal judge George Smith halted demolition, but it was too late and only one arch of the ornate structure was saved. I have never felt so ripped-off after paying over $300 for one night. That said, ALL staff is wonderful, and the restaurant is good. The lobby does NOT look like the photo; it is not meant for lounging/visiting, etc. There are two unimpressive sofas, and that's it.
