"Set in a perfect location"
The hotel is in a lovely residential area with good bars and restaurants which are not touristy. You can experience the real Venice here and yet you are close enough to get to the centre.

Bauer Il Palazzo

Sestiere Di San Marco 1413 D, Venice - Map
"Wonderful hotel; great location to stay in Venice"
Had a fantastic stay at Bauer Il Palazzo. We arrived before check-in: no problem to leave bags (full hotel the night before, so no early check-in), and water, OJ or prosecco offered to us (and are available to guests for free during the day - though I could only see water by early evening). Likewise, when we had a 3pm water taxi to leave but check-out at noon, not a problem, and we felt our bags were safe. Very helpful concierge, who booked our preferred restaurant (no hard sell trying to get us to go anywhere), and also arranged a (free) private boat to Murano (with a glass-blowing demonstration, and a bit of hard-sell!), and also a (free) water taxi (this time shared) to Burano. The room was comfortable, though the air conditioning was a bit noisy and did not seem particularly effective. However, sleeping with the window open was not such a good idea, as there are mosquitoes. Our room (on the 7th floor) had a lovely balcony from which you could see the end of the Grand Canal; because we faced west, we did not get a view of St Mark's etc, but the breakfast terrace (with plentiful buffet) has an excellent view for this (and a better view for the Grand Canal itself). The bathroom was a little small, though more than adequate - just a bit squashed in there when the door opened. However, there were frequent towel changes and toiletry replenishment, as well as a turn-down service for the room. Took a while to work out how to open and close the shutters - ask when shown the room!

"Hotel dans un parc"
Joli hotel dans un grand parc avec piscine, transats, parasols et jeux pour les enfants. Le personnel est très agréable. Petit-déjeuner très bien avec du fromage, des fruits, des oranges pressées. Restaurant gastronomique ( excellent) à prix correct. Parfait pour séjourner et en profiter pour visiter Venise à 20' (le matin).

Bauer Palladio Hotel & Spa

Giudecca 33, Venice - Map
"Away from the crowds, magnificent views of Venice"
If you are looking for a quiet, quality and well-priced hotel in Venice then look no further than Bauer Palladio. Situated on Guidecca island, where tour groups and cruise crowds rarely venture, the hotel is adjacent to the famous Cipriani hotel. We visited our illustrious neighbour, recently made even more famous by the Clooneys, and ended up with a huge bill for 2 glasses of wine, large enough to make us retreat back to our less well-known but equally magnificent hotel. We booked the garden-facing deluxe room which was clean, spacious, well-equipped (but no kettle) and has a huge comfortable bed. Internet was intermittent but frankly who cares when there is so much to see and absorb. Breakfast was plentiful and quite impressive and service was impeccable. There isn't much to do on Guidecca but do take walk along the promenade to capture venice at sunset. There are cheap bars offering a glass of wine for 2 Euros and there is a decent pizza restaurant next to Redentore church. A posh-looking restaurant nearby is not worth the money and the service deteriorates drastically after the first few charming moments when the waiter lures you into his den. The hotel's half-hourly shuttle-boat service takes under 5 minutes to Venice. You will spend the rest of the day with massive crowds so here are some of the quieter attractions: Teatro La Fenice, Salute, Peggy Guggenheim, Secret itinerary Doggies Palace. For food visit local cafes where Venetians go or get ready to be ripped off.

"This is the Hotel for you!!!!"
With so many hotels to choose from in Venice it's not easy picking a Hotel. If you want a luxurious stay that is only five minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge and St Mark's Square this is the Hotel for you. The staff are very friendly and nothing is too much trouble and they all speak very good English. When I'm away I do like a cooked breakfast and that was available too! In summary I can't fault this hotel and would recommend to anyone looking for a good hotel in the beautiful city of Venice.

Relais Ormesani

Via Zuccarello, 42/G, Marcon - Map
"Good location, nice rooms, limited services"
This was a nice place to stay. It's a 'relais', and also 'agriturismo', ie it's set in pleasant countryside within a working farm. You can walk round the grounds and see the animals, and many of the items in the breakfast buffet are homemade on the farm - butter, eggs, jam, even honey. The downside is that this really isn't a full-on hotel. The reception is only staffed for a few hours a day, there's no room service, the restaurant (which looks great on their website) is only open on Sundays, and use of the 'wellness centre' (pool, jacuzzi, gym) is not included in the room charge. Instead, it will cost you 30 euros per person per day. We used it as a base for going into Venice, Verona and up to the mountains at Belluno, which was fine, but we were a little disappointed at not being able to go for a quick swim in the mornings.
