“Exceptionally good.”

For the price of the room Hotel Abbazia is an exceptional value. Although the room was small by American standards it was modernly appointed and clean. The hotel's lounge was quite spacious and comfortable. It also provides a nice place for an evening drink at the bar. In the mornings the Abbazia provides a very healthful and ample breakfast setting which is included in the room price. The was staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Located near the Grand Canal and train station makes makes sightseeing very easy as well as for entering/exiting the city.

“Very Close to Acropolis”

Athens public transportation was on strike. Hotel was accomidating at getting transportation, though very pricey. Nice Breakfast included made for a good start to the day. The room was a room, bed very stiff though after traveling through Europe seems to be a theme.

“Good access to transportation - easy to find, good service.”

Location is very close to the cart/train/bus access to Venice which means least effort to find, and lug you bags to the hotel - not trivial considerations when you see the street layouts/& face the steps for bridges! Once in your hotel Venice is very walkable. Hotel rooms are small but clean, Ok since you don't spend too much time in the room - breakfast was good. Hotel staff gave excellant service, and tour and transportation advice.

Area recommendations
This location is good as you are close to the railway/bus terminals. In Venice most key routes have yellow signs on buildings with direction arrow to Rialto/St Marks and back to Roma / trains very helpfull for find way back to Abbrizia. Maps only give you an idea where you may be street names number change too often to help you much.
Getting around
Venice is a good walking city - its not huge - not great for strollers or wheel chairs due to steps for all the bridges ( 450 of them). Take the #2 Boat Bus to get an inexpensive Grand canal tour from train terminal to St Marks. Peak cruise ship crowds seem to be between 11am -4:30pm - if you don't like crowds hit the main attractions outside these hours.
Must see
St marks Square and the Doghes Palace for the history lession and the grandeur of the venition empire.

“Lovely hotel, close to water bus stop, excellent service”

We loved this hotel. It is a well maintained, converted monastery with a beautiful garden where you can eat breakfast or just lounge. The staff were very helpful and very friendly and funny. It is well located - not far from the Grand Canal. We would certainly go back to stay here the next time we are in Venice.

“Lovely, quiet historic hotel”

We were very satisfied with Hotel Abbazia. The staff are very friendly and accommodating; the breakfast is good; the garden is a fantastic green oasis; and the hotel is only a 2 minute walk from the train station, yet it is very quiet. The lobby bar is large and airy and very interesting - it was the dining room when the building was a monastery. Our room was huge by any standard and the bathroom was also very large and beautifully updated. The decor is old-fashioned, but that seems to be the standard in Venice. We loved the low-key, homey atmosphere and the peace and quiet respite from the crowds. Would highly recommend this as a quality mid-range hotel.

Area recommendations
I chose this area primarily for it's convenience to the railway station. There are other areas of Venice that are more upscale, but are considerably more expensive. After wandering through most neighbourhoods of Venice, I thought the Dorsoduro neighbourhood appeared to have very nice hotels, shopping and walking areas.
Getting around
Buy a vaporetto pass and hop on and off all day and well into the night. It is the least expensive, most convenient means of travel in Venice. We rode it up and down the Grand Canal many times and also rode around the lagoon which gives one a different perspective on the way of life in this city. Of course there is a lot of walking, but all of it is very easy and every nook and cranny is delightful. The islands are quite small, so you can travel a long way quite quickly. For instance, you can walk from the train station to St. Mark's Square in about 30 minutes at a normal pace. Straying off the beaten path is the most enjoyable thing to do in Venice. There is something picturesque and interesting around every corner!

“Excellent location”

Situated just by the train and bus station. You'll probably pass it the first time cuz it's just down some alley way. Very nice rooms with good character. Service was exceptional. It did rain one night but no big deal the hotel offers umbrellas. Friends of ours had to stay at the hotel just next to us and their staff was terrible and rude. Breakfast was great we ate out in the gardens it was beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

Area recommendations
We got lost for hours in the city and it was probably the best part of the trip. You can rent a boat of your own for 25 euros an hr. I def recommend it if u think u can drive the boat.
What to pack
Pack a long sleeve shirt or light jacket cuz it does cool down at night.
