Dog Island Cheap Vacations

The room was not very clean when we checked in. I most certainly could have swept and mopped and cleaned the kitchen if I had brought cleaning supplies, but I have never had to bring a broom to a hotel! If you are staying for a long time, bring cleaning supplies. We were offered one cleaning for an 8 day stay. Access to additional towels and supplies was great; simply go to the laundry room and grab what you need and drop off your dirty towels. There was one SMALL bar of soap provided. No dishwasher pods, no dish soap, no paper towels...nothig like in a normal hotel or extended suite hotel like a Springhill. So you must bring everything. There is plenty of space in the room, a decent closet and desk. $ plates, cups, and bowls. A couple of cooking pans. 4 silverware sets. Not much. Full fridge, oven and microwave. The grounds are kept well, the courtyard is really nice and access to a grill is convienent. Someone was out there grilling their dinner each night, so you definiety have to share. Parking is easy and the price was very affordable. My college kids had to stay there for the week and they felt safe. I did have to drive to Tally and check them in since they weren't 21. No keyless entry (no iphone key app).

We have stayed here often when visiting our college kids we love the central location. This visit was NOT like previous visits. Our vehicle does not fit in their parking garage and available street parking is a walk and an inconvenience, especially with my husbands bad knee. They are under construction for a renovation process, both the gym and the pool were closed. Staff had to be asked to restock sleeves for coffee to not burn your hands with complimentary coffee every morning. We complained about a high pitch squeak coming out of our ac unit and what a bad stay we were having, keep in mind the nightly cost of our stay was not cheap and we were uncomfortable, the employee at the front desk offered extra cookies as our compensation. We are waiting to speak to upper management but we left very disappointed, this is not our regular Hilton experience.

We had an incident - there were flies coming up through the shower drain - and the staff responded quickly and moved us to another room. A fire alarm went off twice early in the morning in an adjacent room, and they sent someone quickly on both occasions to investigate and shut it down, but I did have to get up, go into the hallway to isolate the source, and call the front desk twice. The building dates to the 1960s; probably for that reason it was not as well designed as more contemporary hotels to block out traffic noise. The staff, decor, restaurant and service were otherwise excellent.
