We were lucky enough to be the only guests in resort and on island. We enjoyed every moment of our stay, from just relaxing on the beach right outside our bure to doing daily activities organised by local staff of the resort. Best part was visiting local villages and hanging out with locals. Definitely be back in future. Highly recommend if you need place away from crowds.
Viwa Island Resort was fantastic. The service and hospitality were top notch. The staff really go above and beyond to make sure you have a good stay. The bure was comfortable and clean. The snorkeling right off the beach was great! It kept us entertained for hours! I highly recommend this place!
Viwa is heaven on earth. The reefs are the best in yasawa, The service , the food and the accommodations are all top rate. I am well traveled, It is the most romantic and peaceful resort I have ever encountered in addition the resort helps to support a school for island children. During a tour of the school the children gave a wonderful performance. They are careful with the environment. The staff are all happy and wonderful people.. The one issue is that at this time is that they do not have a dive master, so scuba is done at a different resort.
The good:
-The grounds and buildings are very well-kept, beautiful and comfortable
-The resort is very quiet, especially when it's not at full capacity. We often had the beach and reef to ourselves!
What could be improved:
-The food. Understandably it's a small island with perhaps limited access to ingredients, but this has not been the case at other Fijian resorts we've been to. It's beautifully presented, but you can only have fish, potatoes, capsicum, carrots, and iceberg lettuce so many ways before you tire of it. Especially given the price, we expected more. We also expected more fresh fruit, which you only got if you ordered a fruit plate at breakfast.
-Activities seemed poorly planned and executed. We went on a "history hike" that was supposed to talk about the Fijian history of cannibalism. What we got was a walk past a wall (that was about the extent of the history covered there) and a cliff that slaves were thrown off, which dead-ended when the path we were on was too overgrown to continue. "Fish feeding" was being given a few slices of bread to throw into the water from the beach. Many activities involved opportunities to donate to the local village and school, which is nice but it was often enough that it became uncomfortable. The snorkeling equipment was dirty with grime in the breathing tubes.
-Staff singing was beautiful but seemed tiresome for some staff members.
Overall what made our trip enjoyable was the peace and isolation.
A hidden gem. Busy working in partnership with their local villagers, Viwa Resort is continuing sustainable tourism and eco-friendly development (this really does mean no more buildings, cash-catching schemes or stressing wildlife). Probably even more peaceful than it describes in its promotional efforts. Go to be in peace, beauty and nature with fabulous staff - now all great friends.
If looking for glitz, excess, western abuses of everything, please stay away. Do take presents for the village school. Fijian culture abounds with its beautiful goodwill, fun and relentless helpfulness. Great scubering, snorkelling and clear water. Great reefs, beaches, cabins and food. It is isolated, so enjoy it as such, with an occasional shortage - always minor. Aircon, fans, beds, flowers, facilities are great, but the stars are the amazing staff...ceremonies, singing, fun, care. Expect to cry when leaving after their morning songs, dinners on beach under stars and out-of-season great weather.
Words are not enough! I've been to many beautiful places around the world and haven't experienced anything quite like this. The first thing the amazing staff of Viwa Island Resort say to you upon your beachfront welcome is “Bula - welcome home, and home is exactly how this resort feels! Generous, warm hearts of the staff are the reason Viwa resort is such an unique and magical place. I can still hear the wonderful voices of Viwa staff that entertained us each morning, throughout the day and in the evening.
The quiet "Fiji time" vibe of this place on remote island that hasn't been overrun by tourism, coupled with breathtaking natural scenery of land and seascapes, the beautiful voices of the staff choir and band serenading guests daily, make every perfect, magical minute on Viwa a precious memory!
Viwa is an amazing place to stay; the staff are so friendly and knowledgeable, the location is outstanding, and the accommodations are fantastic, especially when you remember how isolated this island is. The fact that they offer WiFi and AC is very impressive. The beach is super soft and the snorkeling is amazing, just steps from the resort. The excursions are also so much fun! We went on the guided snorkel and saw barracudas, a lobster, and so many colorful fish! The best part was swimming with a turtle.
The staff at Viwa will go out of their way to make you happy and comfortable. Everyone is friendly and are happy to chat with you about the area and any questions you might have. The food is also really good, especially since you have multiple options to choose from. Overall this resort is everything you could hope for and so much more. Fiji is an amazing place to visit and Viwa, in particular, is a gem.
Viwa was literally amazing. The staff is so friendly and welcoming and the island is beautiful. Because it is on a beach, be prepared to have sand in your room a bit, but if you're okay with that then this is really a must visit place.
A long white beach shared with just a few people, water as clear as glass, a spectacular reef for diving, stylish and comfortable accommodation (with air-conditioning and fans), very good food and beautiful, friendly staff who sing in gorgeous multi-part harmonies morning, noon and night. A small village nearby where you can meet Fijian people and get some insight into the culture, otherwise it's just long, lazy days, reading and snorkelling in paradise.
Fue una estancia increíble, por la atencion de los dueños y del staff completo y por la comodidad del resort y el mar maravilloso.
Nos sentimos como en casa
Beautiful location on a white, sandy beach. Very welcoming, friendly & helpful staff. A big thank you to everyone at Viwa for a wonderful, relaxing 10 days.
This truly was a perfect South Pacific island experience like no other! With only 11 bures (all beach-front) this intimate coral reef island resort is beautifully appointed without being fussy.
From the moment we landed by seaplane at the beach in front of the resort to a Fijian welcome song we knew we'd stumbled onto something special. Sheung, the hostess with the mostest, brilliantly assisted by Akila, arranged everything we could have hoped for in need of a relaxing 6-day getaway, including a 'cast-away' private island escape on Christmas Day with chilled food hamper and champagne under a specially constructed palm-leaf shelter. Every meal prepared by Mali and his kitchen delightfully took advantage of locally caught seafood (thank you Mali for the birthday cake you made for Louise's birthday). Your only decisions to be made are what to order for lunch and dinner and whether to choose to take in local events organised to further broaden your experience such as village visits, sea kayaking or snorkelling at the coral reefs that surround the resort.
The Fijian staff (special mention to Vata, Maria, Melia and Sera) want you to have a beautiful visit and listening to their harmonised singing made you feel you were in a 1940's Hollywood movie.
We miss the island and want to return as soon as we can!
Viwa Island is an amazing Desert Island Paradise. Other than two small villages (no stores / no restaurants) the resort is the only thing on the island. The staff is extremely welcoming and make you feel like part of the village. Although the menu is somewhat limited, the food is EXCELLENT.
If you are looking for a place to relax and unplug, this is it. The beach is gorgeous and you feel like you have it all to yourself. They have free snorkel excursions where they take you to local reefs and you can use Kayaks and paddle boards as you like. They also usually have daily and nightly activities for fun and teach you about the Fijian culture.
Wonderfully relaxing holiday on a tropical island. Warm friendly staff. Beautiful location. Great snorkelling and diving. Good value for money, could probably find a more luxurious resort, but would then have to pay a premium.
Would love to go back.
Thanks to managment and staff... I won't name them because I don't want to leave anyone out.
We visited Viwa Island to celebrate our honeymoon and we believe we selected the best place to toast this special event. We spent 6 days in this wonderful hotel and we would readily extend our stay if circumstances permitted. We are rather fastidious travelers with sufficient experience with tropical islands so it is tough to impress us, but these guys did!
Transportation
There are two options to get to the island from the mainland: by plane or by ferry. We selected the ferry provided by Awesome Adventures Fiji as it was the cheapest option. The total trip time is around 3 hours (2.5 by ferry and 0.5 by speed boat).
Room
Rooms are spacious with many windows, fans and aircon. All rooms have sea view and large terrace with comfortable chairs. I love having a bathroom combined with a small garden, so I was very happy to see it in this hotel. The room condition was decent, very clean and housekept twice a day to a very high standard (including regular flowering of bed area). Each room is also equipped with assigned sunbeds and hammock – both on the beach.
Beach
The beach is incredible! It is long and gorgeous with crisp white sand and sparkling azure water. There are no rocks in the water enabling easy access into the water even at low tide. We enjoyed swimming near the beach especially at high tide. There are array of corral spots adjacent to the beach (circa 100m) for sea life encounters.
There is also a very nice snorkeling in front of the main lobby and free daily trips
Bula!!
A traditional welcome by management and staff is how it all started. We settled into our Bure which are very clean and creatively decorated. After a foot massage by the lovely Maria we interacted with other guests in the main bar/restaurant area.
The resort offers many activities you can take part in if you wish to do so, snorkeling, diving , kayaking, to name a few.
The food presented was fantastic with service second to none. The live band was great with the angelical voice of Iliesa on the background whilst dinner was served and before that during “Happy Hour”. Staff is very friendly and go out of their way to please you. Thank you Pricilla, Josh, Napoleon, Malea and Oni for your constant smiles and good service. A special mention to Vata for all the entertaining he delivered.
The amenities are kept very clean and a special thanks to staff who put in the effort to surprise us with their daily artistic display of flower arrangements.
We visited one of the villages on the island and we highly recommend this to be put on your list of things to do. Thanks to Ba for taking us to the village and explaining the history. Very interesting.
Thanks to management and all staff for making this holiday a memorable occasion for us and we are planning already to return one day!
Vinaka.
