We planned to stay here because they had an indoor pool. When we decided to go for a swim, there were about 30 little kids in the pool. Come to find out that they run a swimming class for the kids there. There is even a big sign right outside showing the swimming school. So we ended up not using the pool. Too many kids and too loud. I Dont think a hotel should run a swimming pool school while guests want to use the pool.

Clean room really helpful staff

A very nice place to stay, especially as we were in the old part of the property which has loads of character. We had a big, comfortable room with sitting area. I particularly liked that the TV was hidden away behind doors so did not intrude it's presence into the room. The staff were very good, friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is first rate. One down side is that, surprisingly, there is no kettle in the room and ordering hot water or tea from downstairs is tedious and inconvenient. The other minor issue that we had was that the option I chose to book specifically included free parking which implies that there would be parking reserved for me as it was include in my room description. This turned out not to be the case and the small car park was already full. This all got sorted out by the helpful front of house people but it was another irritation that took the shine off a very pleasant visit.

There is a pool and extensive workout facility - offsite. The toilet in our room did not flush properly - took a random number - between 2 and 4 - to get it to work. We made the hotel aware of the issue on checkout. Breakfast was reasonably priced for the selection and we availed ourselves of it all 3 days we stayed - without becoming tired of the variety. The location is quite near the bus and train station - selection criteria for us. The view of the lake was lovely and tranquil. The walk to the town for food and shopping and bar hopping was quite reasonable. They were redoing the grouting in the main lobby while we were there. Upgraded the tired appearance. If the maintenance staff could tour the property - ex: no knob to exit the last women's bathroom stall in the lobby should be noted and fixed. And the vanity lights did not match in our room (one white light, one yellow light) in addition to the poorly flushing toilet noted above... The hotel appears to be trying to upgrade and they are nearly there. A bit more attention to physical maintenance and a bit more quality control for housekeeping (no top sheet on the bed (asked and handed to us) - will get them a 4 star rating.
